       Trivia question on batteries technology

       I'm sorry I've not had much time to post tasking problems as
       before... but here's one when I've got the time, and energy ;D
       Kordesch and Marko of the university of vienna in 1951 prepared
       special metal oxide catalysts based on Co-Al spinels.  The
       carbon hydrogen electrodes were activated to enhance their
       active surface. the carbon hydrogen electrodes contained small
       amounts of Pt catalysts which could oxidize fuels like alcohols
       and aldehydes directly at low temperature.
       Questions:
       1 would such a cell produce low or high current densities in
       alkali electrolytes?
       2 what could be the effect of low temperatures on the cell
       efficiency?
       3 what cheap substance was probably used to activate the carbon
       electrodes?

       Answer to question 1:
       higher current densities
       Answer to question 2: increased cell efficiency.
