An ionic solid is a poor conductor of electricity because:
       (a) The charge on ions is unequally distributed
       (b) The charge on ions is small
       (c) Ions are not free to move in a solid
       (d) Ions do not conduct electricity

       (c) Ions are not free to move in a solid.
       [spoiler]
They're bound in lattices in the crystals in solid state. Only
the free electrons get the chance to conduct due to defects
       occuring in the crystal lattices.

       :)
