       the yields would be very low or there wouln't be any reaction if
       electron withdrawing group is present in the phenolic ester.
       this would be clear if you go through the mechanism in the
       following link.

       In the presence of EWG, the carbocation formed cannot bind to
       the phenol ring and give the desired product.
