On heating some poly(methyl-2-methylpropenoate) chips, a liquid
distillate is obtained. What could be the distillate?

I guess its just from a lot of ambiguity. I would think if you
were to heat some PMMA to a reasonable temperature, nothing
would happen. So the distillate (if I had to chose likely
sources) could be; initiator, cross linkers, plasticizers, or
monomer. With the last being my first answer, more generally,
acrylic acid.
