How would you synthesize diethylether starting with ethyl
bromide

I shall try this:
1. EtBr+H2O→EtOH+HBr;
2. EtOH+Na→EtONa+1/2H2;
3. EtONa+EtBr=Et2O+NaBr.

Basically what I expected, but its better to use a caustic
alkali for the hydrolysis of ethyl bromide.

I used water because a strong alkali can cause elimination, but
under specific condition, substitution will overcome
elimination.
