why do we have to heat the mixture? I mean isnt it to just
filter the CaCO3...

Well, as we know Calcium hydroxide is only slightly soluble in
water, we need to heat up the mixture for the complete reaction.
Infact, I did try it without heating first and unreacted sodium
carbonate was present along with Sodium hydroxide and it gave
effervescence on adding acid.
