       Im trying to find out.. Is there any general method for
       preparing alkynes in the laboratory. Im familiar with ethyne.
       What about other alkynes...

       One way is to treat CH=CH with one mole of strong base such as
       NaNH2 which gives us the CH=C-Na+ salt. This can be reacted with
       any R-I you like to give CH=CR. And if you want, you can use
       NaOEt again followed by R'I on this compound to get CR'=CR. :)
