       Are those white fumes Mg3N2?

       Actually, it is a mixture of both Magnesium oxide and Magnesium
       nitride. The fumes are mostly contains Magnesium oxide but the
       burnt ash is rich in nitride which forms Magnesium hydroxide and
       Ammonia when it reacts with water. Pure magnesium nitride is
       greenish yellow powder.
