       How can we distingwish betwen Hydrogen carbonates and car
       bonates..,in solution?

       Sure, we can.  This problem arises when you are handling alkali
       metal carbonates or Ammonium carbonate as these are only soluble
       among carbonates. In the case of bicarbonates, all are exist
       only in solution except alkali metal bicarbonates & Ammonium
       bicarbonate. If it is a carbonate solution, it precipitates
       insoluble carbonates quickly with any soluble metal salt
       solutions. Of course, except, alkali metal carbonates or
       Ammonium carbonate whereas in case of bicarbonates, they do not
       any. But, on heating, it loses carbon dioxide and precipitates
       carbonates. On hydrolysis, carbonates behave alkaline which
       turns phenolphthalein pink whereas bicarbonates do not.
