       I'm currently studying how electrochemical cells used for
       potentiometric measurements work (just like the pH meters), and
       though I understand how the pH meter can measure the potential
       developed across the glass membrane, I don't understand why the
       gradient of activity across the membrane is given by the
       following equation:
       ΔG=-R*T*ln(activity of H+ in sample/activity of H+ in
       solution).
       Can someone explain it to me?
