It is possible, the gas phase reaction between Nitrogen and
Chlorine is reversible. NH2Cl is an intermediate in the reaction
NH3 + 3Cl2 ---> NCl3 + 3HCl
it is therefore possible to have, a reverse:
NH2Cl + HCl ---> NH3 + Cl2

Hi guyzz 8-) im back.....
So i'm now thinking of how to make bright colorful compounds
just to show my friends how good i am in chem :D
any suggestions??

Welcome back :-) Me back too. Damn, I was sick for the past few
days, really a hard week for me :( I feel better now still
knackered. When talking about colorful compounds, Chromium
compounds more often come to my mind. Because, Chromium
chemistry is always very fascinating. They are interconvertible
in some cases, can be reduced or oxidized very easily and you
can see pretty colors on adding suitable reagents. Sadly,
hexa-valent chromium compounds such as chromate, dichromate
etc.. are very toxic and carcinogenic. So, it is wise to prepare
them temporarily and can be converted to non-carcinogenic green
trivalent compounds by adding reducing agent like Sodium sulfite
before disposing them. You can start off with Chromic chloride,
a dark green color trivalent compound. Anhydrous form is purple
in color. To convert it into hexavalent ion, add Sodium
hydroxide solution and hydrogen peroxide. After 15-20 mins, a
strong yellow color solution results and i.e. Sodium chromate.
But, the solution still has some free peroxide ion which can be
removed by gentle heating. Now all set to go. On adding acid,
the solution will turn orange dichromate ion and it will turn
back to yellow on adding alkali owing to the formation of
chromate ion. On adding hydrogen peroxide to chromate ion, it
gives deep blue color of Chromium peroxide. On adding Sodium
sulfite to chromate ion, it will produce green trivalent ion. On
adding Zinc & acid to the chromate ion, it will first convert
into green trivalent ion, after few secs, further itself reduced
into divalent chromous ion which is not stable and will convert
again into trivalent ion. On adding Sodium acetate to reduced
chromous ion, it gives nice red color chromous acetate.
I'm sure your friends will be amazed of these reactions :-)

Thank you. Well, the reason why I suggested Chromium compound
is, it can be reacted with so many reagents and can produce
compounds with many many colors. Also, chromium is multivalent
and its compounds are reasonably cheap. You need not to buy all
these compounds. All you need is a trivalent soluble compound
like Chromic chloride to start off the reaction. You can get
chromium chloride in the market easily. It is not a rare
chemical. But, again, as I said, please do not buy any
hexavalent chromium compounds since they are carcinogenic and
very dangerous to the environment. If you have any doubts in
buying compounds, please let me know. Me very glad to help you.

You can also try making beautiful copper chlorocomplexes
like

or dissolving Cu in HCl/H2O2, mixture saturated with NaCl, you
could see bright green CuCl4-
and also dissolving Cu(OH)2 in NH3 would give the deep blue
[Cu(NH3)4][sup]2-[sup]
How about ferrocyanides? Any chance? ;) just don't react them
with acids...

i believe this is easy to experiment at home...by varying the
concentrations of either salt you can obtain colorful solutions
with different shades of blue, green or yellow
