Hi guys!
I'm new in the forum and I love chem very much ^_^ I wanna know
simple chemical reactions I can do at home ;) just for fun. Any
reaction that goes bang!!! would be my favorite :-D

nice to meet you!
if you want the reaction that goes bang, you can mix KNO3, C, N
with the fix ratio then "as you wish" *i am just kidding*
i recommend you a reaction of C and KMnO4 ( you mix charcoal
with KMnO4 solid > solid mixture in the test tube) then heating
them, you can see the simple firework.
so many experiments we can do at home... we'll find out more!

Unfortunately i dont have KMnO4 :-( but I have KNO3 and
Charcoal. So I will mix KNO3 and C in a test tube...or any other
compound to be added to the mixture?

Glad you are all love chemistry. So am I. Especially in
Inorganic chemistry. Actually, both carbon and sulphur burn
violently in the molten potassium nitrate as it is a strong
oxidizing agent and it oxidizes both carbon and sulphur to
carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide respectively. If you wanna
smokeless one, just avoid sulphur. If you wanna see how it

Please note that you should use a strong test tube for this.
Otherwise, glass will be shattered because of too much heat
generated during this reaction.
Also, if you have calcium carbide in your home (which is usually
used for welding) put it in a separate PLASTIC bottle and take
another bottle with some bleaching powder. Now ready? add dilute
cleaning acid to the bleaching powder and water to the calcium
carbide. If two bottles come in contact, it will bang. What
happened here is, on adding dilute acid on bleaching powder
liberates chlorine and adding water on calcium carbide liberates
acetylene. When acetylene reacts with chlorine, it will react
explosively and produces elemental carbon and hydrogen chloride.
Please note that this reaction should be done OUTSIDE. DO NOT DO
THIS INSIDE YOUR HOME.

Nothing as such. Use borosilicate glass test tube and you can
use sulfur too. Also, do it in a small scale hehe :-)

If you are experimenting with S and KNO3, work with a fume hood
or do it outdoors, in the open air. SO2 isn't at all pleasant
for the lungs. Also remember to check the MSDS for each chemical
you're handling.
