       How can you carry out these conversions in the lab
       a) CH3COOH to CH3CONH2
       b) CH3CHO to CH3COOC2H5
       pls reply fast.

       I'll try to help you answer these questions yourself.
       a) CH3COOH to CH3CONH2
       Ethanol to Ethanamide
       Ethanol is an acid, Ethanamide is a salt. How can you convert an
       acid to a salt? How will you convert this acid to a salt?- by
       reacting with a suitable base. But this can't be done directly,
       because ethanamide is not a salt of acetic acid Esterification,
       followed by reaction with NH3 is the usual process. Ethanamide
       and ethanol are the products. Ethanol can be distilled off
       leaving behind ethanamide.
       b)CH3CHO to CH3COOC2H5
       this will be oxidation of ethanal to acetic acid, followed by
       esterification to give ethyl acetate. You should know suitable
       reagents for these processes
