Questions on Hydrogen production

Hydrogen was formerly produced in an industrial scale according
to this reaction:
C+H2O--->CO+H2
this method was replaced by
CH4+H2O--->CO+H2O
Questions:
1. Why in your own opinion is the second method more economical?
2. If the CH4 in the 2nd equation is gotten from Natural gas,
what impurities are likely to be found in the unpurified H2
3. State one reagent that can absorb the CO produced in both
reactions.
