KoGaMaCraft - A KoGaMa MineCraft Server!
By: MrSovietOnion Date: July 25, 2013, 4:10 pm

So I've been talking this idea over with Noble for a while and
we both agree that it's a good one - what if I started a
MineCraft server for you guys? I would host it and I would
probably make Noble an admin, maybe Devin if he wants. I could
implement stuff like Bukkit, and all sorts of different plugins.
Right now I'm thinking this will be more of a survival server,
but I want to know what you guys think of all this.
So, what are your thoughts?

I do not support Minecraft servers for Kogama players. It beats
the purpose of playing Kogama entirely.

It's more based off of the idea that I've found a decent sized
community of people who enjoy playing building games, and I
figured that they might be interested in something like this.

[s]Look at the amount of people who play KoGaMa.
Now look at the amount of people who enjoy KoGaMa.
Look at the players who enjoy KoGaMa who also play MineCraft
(who have accounts)
You don't see much. You see like, 10 at the most. If you were
expecting 100, blasphemy.
Decent sized? Hell, I can't go on multiplayer servers because I
have the free version.
I can see 1/3 of all Minecraft players having the free version
as well, it's not that hard to get.[/s]
On second thought, it's a great idea. Disregard the other post.

Well, I appreciate the change of heart, but I'm still going to
do the math because I can.
So, the total amount of people that play KoGaMa (assuming you're
talking only about the US server) comes out to be an exact total
of 43,349 registered accounts at the moment. Out of that, we're
going to first find the amount of people that "enjoy" KoGaMa.
For the sake of simplicity, we'll consider "enjoyment" of the
game user activity. Now, using the 90-9-1 rule (read about it
here:
HTML http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1%25_rule_(Internet_culture)<br
/>) only 10% of the users in the server actively contribute. Bea
r
in mind that this rule applies more to YouTube and Wikipedia
than a website like this, but we can use some basic reasoning to
come to that conclusion. This means that approximately 4,335
users are active. We can assume that they therefore enjoy the
game. Now, let's take a look at the total amount of people with
MineCraft accounts. The grand total amount of MineCraft users is
currently 11,456,000 approximately. This is the amount of people
that have actually purchased the game. For the purpose of this
example, let's suppose that, oh, one out of every one hundred
active KoGaMa players has purchased MineCraft. This number
comes out to about 43 players. If you have a server with at
least 16 players on it, that's still a rather large server for
the community. But, let's not forget, these people are bound to
tell others about the server if they enjoy it, and a
word-of-mouth domino effect comes in to play. Should I and my
fellow sever operators be dedicated enough, we could potentially
have a server of over 100 people in a year. All fun aside,
there's income to be made from that. Mega servers often have
forums (oh, hey, look, I happen to own one) that have donate
buttons. As the server grows, I would generate income if I chose
to grow it that large. I could use the money to possibly make
the server even larger, and other MineCraft players would learn
of it. Since it's a KoGaMa-based server, this would make a lot
of these new users curious and they would, in turn, check out
KoGaMa. This means that, not only am I generating income for
myself, but I'm also helping the KoGaMa community by bringing in
new users. And, everyone can enjoy the server together. We all
win.
All arguments are now invalid, have a nice day. (;

And only 51% of those 43 users use the forums so really its only
23 and only 15 or so are active on this one and now you have to
take into consideration how many people really have or want to
create a minecraft account. Now we have 9 or 10.
[/quote]
That's still a considerable amount, especially since it costs me
nothing to run the server.
