Some of the biggest misconceptions that many non-Muslims have
about Islam have to do with the word "ALLAH".
Before I will tell us the meaning of Allah I will like us to
know the features and characteristics of Allah,
He is one and only, He is the First, before Whom there is
nothing, and the Last, after Whom there is nothing. He is the
Most deserving of being remembered, the Most deserving of being
worshipped, the Most deserving of being thanked. He is the Most
Compassionate of kings, the Most Generous of those who are
asked. He is the King Who has no partner or associate, the One
who has no rival, the Self-Sufficient Master, Who has no
begotten son, the Most High, and there is none like unto Him.
Everything will perish save His face, He is controlling the
affairs of all the kingdoms, He commands and prohibits, He has
knowledge over all things secrets are known to Him. He forgives
sins of his servants without any blood sacrifice. Verily, His
Command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it,
Be! and it is. [Quran, 36:82]
This is Allah, who revealed the Glorious Quran for the guidance
of mankind.
These are little out of the characteristics of Allah and now we
are going to know the meaning of Allah.
God is the similar meaning for Allah but not the appropriate
meaning/translation for Allah because the word "ALLAH" CANNOT be
changed either made plural or given a gender, add any prefix or
suffix e.g god(s), goddess, godfather, godmother, etc.
Many people have come to believe that Muslims worship a
different God than Christians and Jews. This is totally false,
since "ALLAH" is simply that Arabic word for "God" - and there
is only One God. Muslims worship the God of Noah, Abraham,
Moses, Jesus etc - peace be upon them all. However, it is
certainly true that Jews, Christians and Muslims all have
different concepts of Almighty God.
It is important to note that "ALLAH" is the same word that
Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews use for God. If you pick up
an Arabic Bible, you will see the word "ALLAH" being used where
"God" is used in English. This is because "ALLAH" is the only
word in the Arabic language similar to the English word "God".
Lastly, He is the one that sent all messengers to their people
only to know him and sent only Muhammad as mercy to whole world.
