CAN WE PRAY IN JESUS' (PBUH) NAME ?
I give thanks to Almighty God the creator of everything, the
ONLY that we call upon when we beseech for help and the acceptor
of our prayer.
One the misconceptions which those that claimed to be the
follower of Jesus (Christians) have about Jesus is by praying in
Jesus' name "in Jesus' name we pray" or "in the name of Jesus".
God says in Qur'an 40:60 "Call upon me I will answer your
(prayer)", bible also says John 7:7-11 "Ask, and it will be
given to you……how much more will your Father in heaven give good
things to those who ask him", these verses clearly stated that
the only that can answer our prayer is God (not angels, not
prophets, not anyone) which means we should not beseech any help
or supplicate to anyone or pray with anyone's name except God.
The question we should ask ourselves is did Jesus pray in his
name? Did John the Baptist pray in Jesus' name? What about
Moses, Abraham, Isaiah etc. ? The answer is NO Even his
disciples never pray in Jesus’ name.
In some verses of the Bible, Jesus is reported to have said the
following words:-
JOHN 14:13:- "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that
the Father may be glorified in the Son."
One important thing the Christians do not understand from this
verse is that, Jesus was only saying what God has revealed unto
him as a Prophet and messenger. It was the Almighty and Supreme
God that was speaking to the children of Isreal (Israelites)
through the mouth of Jesus, just as he had spoken to them before
through the mouth of moses or Prophet Isaiah and other prophets.
The Supreme God ask Jesus to tell the Jew's that: and whatsoever
you ask in my name (God's name without associating any partner
with me) that I will do, that the father (God) may be glorified
in the son (according to the teaching of Jesus): if he ask
anything in my name (God's name, I the Supreme God) will do it."
it was not Jesus that was saying that he would answer the
prayer if you pray to him, no, it was God that was giving this
inspiration or revelation to Jesus. The Evidence can be found in
what Jesus himself said in the following verses of the Bible:
This is what Jesus said at the end of his word in the same
chapter John 14:24 "And the word that you hear is not my own: it
is the word of the Father who sent me."
John 12:49-50:- "For I did not speak on my own, but the Father
who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. I know
that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is
just what the Father has told me to say.”
Therefore the words in John 14:13 on the answering prayer "in my
name" (God's name) was only repeated by Jesus as God has spoken
to him. The verse only pinpointed to that it was God that answer
our prayers and not Jesus, and that we should only pray directly
to God; that is the right meaning of "IN MY NAME".
And also if you read bible very well, verses which Jesus used to
teach his disciples on how to pray he didn't command them that
they should pray with his name or he will answer their name but
God's name and God will answer their prayer. For example Matthew
6:8 "Do not be like them; *your Father knows what you need
before you ask him*. So you should pray like this: *Our Father
in heaven, may your name be held holy*" Jesus also said in Mat
18:19 "In truth I tell you once again, if two of you on earth
agree to ask anything at all, *it will be granted to you by my
Father in heaven.*" If you read Mat 6:6 "But when you pray, go
to your private room, shut yourself in, and so pray to your
Father who is in that secret place, and *your Father who sees
all that is done in secret will reward you.*"
can we pray in JESUS' name and answer our prayer according to
Jesus. Jesus says in John 5:30 "By myself I can do nothing; I
can judge only as I am told to judge, and my judging is just,
because I seek to do not my own will but the will of him who
sent me", Jesus said he is powerless that only God can answer
prayer, Someone called Jesus good master and Jesus said in Mat
19:17&Luke 18:19 "Jesus said to him, 'Why do you call me good?
No one is good but God alone." Jesus admitted that he was not
good that only God is good, Jesus also prayed to God when Jews
wanted to kill him because he didn't want to die (Mat 26:39,
Hebrew 5:7), why are we praying to Jesus while Jesus also prayed
to God and teach to pray to God, Jesus said "Anyone who does not
love me does not keep my words." "If you keep my word you are my
follower" (John 14:24 & 8:31).
See how God spoke through his prophets:
God says in Qur'an 2:186 "And when My servants ask you (O
Muhammad) concerning Me, then surely I am very near; I answer
the prayer of the suppliant when he calls on Me, so they should
answer My call and believe in Me that they may walk in the right
way."
2CHRONICLES 7:14 "if my people, who are called by my name, will
humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their
wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive
their sin and will heal their land."
The above verses also says that all prayers should be directed
to the Supreme God directly because he listens and answer our
prayers; we should seek the face of God to answer our prayers
and solve our problems and not to depend or trust in his
creations.
The agreement which every creations made to God is "You (Alone)
we worship, and you (Alone) we ask for help (for each and
everything)."[Quran 1:5]
THE CORRECT IS: "IN THE NAME OF GOD WE PRAY"
