Alabaster hissed and reached forward as he saw the girl's mouth
part, covering it to try and muffle any attempts at screaming.
"Don't make any noise," he grumbled to her, "I'm not here to
hurt you, as long as you listen to me."

Sophie gasped as her mouth was covered by the man's hand and her
attempt to scream was silenced. She stared up at the man with
wide tear-filled and terrified eyes as he spoke. She slowly
nodded her head as she agreed to listen to what he had to say.

Alabaster hesitated for a moment to make sure the girl was
actually going to listen, before he stepped back and let his
hand fall to his side once more. "I'm assuming you've figured
out why I came here today, yes?" he asked.

As the man stepped back and released her mouth, the girl drew
her blankets further around herself... "Y-yes..." She whispered,
fear still lingering in her gaze.

"Mmm... I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not." Alabaster
sighed, and shook his head. "Listen. You're going to tell no one
you saw me here. We never spoke, never interacted. I'm not even
talking to you right now. Understood?" The assassin paused,
before adding, "I do not want to harm someone as beautiful as
you, but if you tell anyone about me, I will have to."

Sophie's eyes widened once again as Alabaster threatened her
life, she shrank back from him. "I-I understand..." She
murmured, wishing for all the world that she hadn't figured out
that he was an intruder.

As soon as Sophie had agreed, the assassin's mood seemed to
flip. The man smiled, and started to head out of her room. "I'm
glad we are in agreement," he hummed, heading out onto the
balcony and hopping up onto the railing. He hesitated, and
turned his head to look at Sophie. "Sorry for killing your...
Future husband. Though if I may be completely honest, you
deserve better than him anyway." As soon as he had finished
speaking, the assassin jumped down from the balcony,
disappearing into the night.

Sophie watched as the assassin moved onto her balcony and hopped
up onto the railing... As he spoke, tears filled her eyes once
again and she looked down at her bed. "But there was no one else
interested in me..." She whispered in response, feeling a sense
of hopelessness descend upon her. The only possible thing she
had to look forward to was marriage. She had nothing to her
name, no money or property. It all belonged to her father as was
the law. Was she going to end up a spinster spending the rest of
her life? Living here in her father's home until he died and she
was sent to the streets? Unless whoever received her father's
money decided to be kind and provide for her as well.
