The only reason we accepted Dawn is because magic inserted
herself into their family tree.
You can't go to that plot device twice and expect to thrill an
audience.

It can, but what audience member wants to see the exact same
storyline twice?
Part of the beauty of the Dawn arc was us not knowing how she
got there and why nobody was calling any attention to this new
character.
