Hubris. The same way Doctor Doom doesn't think he's evil.
The reason the book is called the Darkhold is because using it
allows the dark to hold your soul. Anyone who has ever escaped
its demonic influence was lucky, it's a tool that makes the
world a worse place.

The Darkhold was written specifically for Chthon to create loyal
followers and maintain a link to the Earth so he could return
and control at any given time of the future.
Another book would just be exactly what you're saying, a
counterpart, no different than hitting back after you've been
hit. It doesn't solve the original problem, it just creates
more weapons to be used against each other. The Darkhold needs
to be destroyed, but because it is indestructible, the answer to
that problem is for everyone to never read it.
