Hellooooooo

I've been here lurking for a while. I haven't been feeling very
inspired lately and just never committed to anything. I am
notoriously bad at message boards. For some reason they don't
work well with how my brain works. But I'm going to try again.
Hello y'all. I go by JaklynHyde for all my alter ego needs,
typically shortened to Hyde. (Pref. pronoun: she) JaklynHyde
came from my self-chosen roller derby name. I did derby for
about a year and a half. Time constraints, money, and a
concussion and subsequent fear of injury have side lined me from
that. But I'm getting ahead of myself I think.
I need a change in my life. I work as a paramedic and I have
done that for 11 years now. It is draining. I am drained.
Emotionally, mentally, physically. My long work hours don't give
me much time or motivation to focus on my health. My therapist
tells me that it is likely the combined constant micro
agressions of my job environment, the job itself, and the macro
aggressions perpetuated against me by my ex husband (and now my
own children) that leave me so exhausted that I find it
difficult to take care of myself and daily tasks. I agree with
her but I also want to change my situation. Perhaps being part
of a community helps that.
I don't have any type of specific goals right now. I just want
to feel better (more energy, less cumbersome and unweildly) and
start feeling happy and energized about and become of my life.
Nice to meet everyone.

Welcome to the boards love!
I know you said you don't have any specific goals yet. Next week
I am going to get my worksheets that I use in the personal
training I do, all uploaded and we can work on stuff. I am going
to be in El Paso on sat (maybe Fri depends on the driving) and I
will have more time next week.
So generally when you are having trouble finding the motivation,
I suggest instead finding a routine. I have basic "morning" and
"bedtime" routines (I put them in quotes because I wasn't always
a daywalker ;) ). When I get lost and need help finding my way,
I do as Fezzini said and return to the beginning. For me,
routines are the beginning.
When I need to respawn, my morning routine is "get up, make the
bed, take meds, get dressed". It helps me to keep it simple, and
to keep it short. After I can do this EVERY SINGLE DAY for 14
days, I add in things. Usually, for me, it's "get up, make the
bed, take meds, wash face, get dressed, stretch". This generally
takes no more than like 4 minutes. I prefer the kiss method.
KEEP IT SIMPLE SWEETY. After I get REALLY consistent I will add
more steps, like wipe down the bathroom counter, put away the
dishes from the dishwasher. Small simple things that take no
more than a minute or two. I will keep adding until my list
takes about 15 minutes to do. Getting that 15 min of "stuff"
done first thing in the morning makes it so much easier for my
brain to complete MORE stuff!!
This is part of why I break down my to-do lists so much. That
check mark that indicates I have COMPLETED something, gives me
the oomph to continue with the doing.
My bedtime routine is the same. I will only add a thing when I
have completed the previous things with consistency. If I find
that I am having difficulty on the steps? I will step back to
that previous level that I was able to do consistently.
I REALLY recommend finding an app or system, that allows you to
"count gold stars". Whether it's the one that Myf posted in the
RSP, or it's just that you buy a calendar from the dollar tree
and a pack of the multi-color stars and assign each thing you
want to do a color star and place it in the date. There are MANY
different systems you can use. I started with the dollar tree
yearly calendar and stickers.
I think starting simple and expanding will really help you.
After you are doing a morning and bedtime routine for a few
weeks you can add in some fitness stuff and some "looking for a
work solution stuff" and some other stuff. I will always say
"start with the routines" because I find them such a fundamental
part of my success!
