Rules!
DIR By: alienjenn
Date: January 6, 2019, 11:51 am
---------------------------------------------------------
(I know this is a LOT, please stick with me until the end :) I
want for this forum to be HOME for everyone. I have a LOT of
thoughts about what constitutes HOME :) also, please reply to
this thread indicating that you intend to follow these rules)
Who are we
We are a group of friends who wish to encourage each other and
hold each other accountable in all of our endeavors.
In essence we are heroes.
The idea, of Kintsugi Heroes, is that we are taking whatever
scars we have and filling them with purpose in order to
restructure the needs of our body. It isn't about goal setting
and goal keeping, as much as it's about acknowledging and
accepting how the choices we make (good or bad) affect our
abilities to perform...in the hopes that with support,
accountability, and the positive momentum that a new program
can give us, we can not only meet goals, but we can keep trying
even when we don't...to find the gold we need to fix our broken
pottery, as it were.
In that spirit, we need to all be on the same page, or at least
in the same book. We're trying to get our bodies right in order
to have the strength and courage to get the rest right. We need
the people around us to have the same goals, or we may as well
be going it alone! To put a finer point on it, the group IS
primarily a fitness related group.
Having mental goals, and spiritual goals, and household goals,
or whatever; is AMAZING and I want to celebrate that. I also
understand that sometimes we have to clear our minds before we
can work on our bodies. My hope, is that you will work towards
having fitness/movement/activity type goals. No matter your
current level of fitness or abilities, there is ALWAYS going to
be something (even if it’s a very tiny something) that you can
do to add to your physical well being. I believe that fitness is
for everyBODY, and that the definition of “fitness” can be
different. Let’s work together to get that defined for you and
start you moving in that direction!
As I have said, in my philosophy page, I do not believe that
weight loss should be the goal. I believe that it CAN be a side
effect of goals, but that it shouldn’t be the "end all be all"
of goals. There are SO MANY different things that go into weight
loss, that we cannot GUARANTEE a linear connection between our
efforts and the amount we lose. I would prefer that the main
topic of posts are kept to your EFFORTS, and to your actions,
rather than on weight loss. I feel that WEIGHT is not the number
one indicator of health and fitness. There are hundreds of data
points that are equally or more important than weight. I
understand that weight is a PART of our narratives, it’s just
not the ONLY part and I want to focus on the WHOLE narrative!
I LOVE seeing transformations! For the love of all things holy,
POST them! I LOVE hearing about how your labs have changed! (I
dropped my A1c from 14.x to 6.2, I am HELLA PROUD of that!) I
love hearing how your confidence has increased, how you have
overcome this or that obstacle! POST THAT STUFF!!
Also, Kintsugi Heroes is how I live MY LIFE. This group, this
forum, this FAMILY; it’s me. I will share every aspect of my
journey here. The forums are here to inspire and motivate you,
but also me! I work hard to keep my Mind Council focused on the
positive aspects. I believe that we lift ourselves, by uplifting
others! We motivate ourselves, by helping others find their
motivation! Also, we find the love for ourselves when we show
loves to others!

- NO BODY SHAMING
- Rudeness or arguing (nothing wrong with a little debate but
let’s keep it nice)

be for PRIZES))
- Poo-poo heads
- Excessive foul language (I am known to drop an F bomb or two.
Let’s try to keep it PG-13.)
- NO BS

A note about participation requirements
I have noted elsewhere that there are no minimum requirements
for participation. However I SUGGEST that you post. Post often!
Post on your fellow heroes threads. Post on your threads. Post
EVERYWHERE!
I would like to see a Main Quest thread and participation in the
group. There is a difference between a person who joins with
the interest to participate based on the goals of the group, and
for some life reason has some set back. And a person who joins
the group knowing full well they don't have time (or ability) to
commit (right now) and/or doesn't have the same primary focus as
the group does.
The first person will still benefit. Because they are being
supported by people who want the same things as they do, and
have been in the same situations. Maybe they will handle the
situation with a better outcome than when we had to do it alone?
Also, that person will still be there for the other members.
Because they care to see the people who struggle like they do
succeed.
By participating, everyone benefits.
The second person will not benefit, nor will they BE a benefit.
They won't be invested; they can't commit to do so. They
don't share the same goals, so even if they join, others can't
offer them much of value and vice versa.
The other reason participation is important is because it's a
place people are often vulnerable. We expose some of our fears
and insecurities because we see that everyone else is in the
same boat.
To have people privy to that conversation that are not a part
of it is like having some dude just hanging out in the locker
room while we shower.
Daily Goal
Your daily goal is just that, YOUR daily goal. It should be
something that will stretch you but not hurt you. I like to
recommend ADDING something to your routine rather than trying to
remove something. This can be anything from a daily step goal,
to a burpee challenge, to a daily squat program, to Darbee
challenges, ANYTHING you want. If you currently sit most of the
time, it is OK to add TWO MINUTES of active time to your daily
routine (or 5, or 10, or whatever feels like a STRETCH to you).
You Main Quest post could say something like “today’s movement
was dancing to STP with my dog”. If that’s your goal, you meet
it however you want.
I also expect that you progressively load your daily goal. If
you start the Quest with a 5 minute daily movement goal, you
could work your way up to 15 or 20 minutes. It could look
something like this week 1 - 5 minutes, week 2 - 7 minutes, week
3 - 9 minutes, week 4 - 11 minutes, week 5 - 13 minutes, week 6
- 15 minutes. Feel free to ask for advice either through PM or
publicly on the group, about how to progressive load your goal.
Side Quests
The Side Quest is intended to be IN ADDITION TO, rather than
instead of your daily goal. NOTE, if the mini challenge and your
daily goal align, you can do them together. For example, week
one mini is to ADD 5 min stretching. If your daily goal is 5
minutes stretching, you can “split the difference” and combine
them (possibly doing 7 minutes). I am extremely reasonable and
will work with you to ensure that you don’t over do things.
Side Quests will run the length specified in the post!
I want to reiterate that the MAIN goal of this group is to HAVE
FUN. YES I expect you to work on some hard things. YES, I want
you to make gigantic goals. I want you to grow as a human and as
an athlete and as whatever you aspire to be. I WANT you to
tackle your fears! I WANT you to go up against your Goliath,
your big boss, your Scylla and Charybdis! But I want you to know
that you are a HERO. YOU are the protagonist in your story!
And you're not alone. We are here for you, you have come
HOME.

Before you go, please reply to this thread to indicate your
acceptance of the rules!
Rules are in effect and will be maintained. Your use of the
boards will constitute an acceptance of the rules in the absence
of a reply here!

So funny story. I read the rules and was like "oh cool, got it"
but by the end had forgotten the request that I reply to confirm
acceptance. WHOOPS. Long day. 😂

Thanks for inviting me! I'm coming of of a bad last part of the
year (illness, death in the family, drama with loved ones,
etc.). I kind of shut down and went into hibernation. And now I
feel like I need to kick my butt and get out of the cave and
back out into the sunshine. I'll come back later today and post
my challenge goals and such, on break from work.
Cheers!
