Do you think this movie will be awards contender?

I do think that, with Fox Searchlight as one of the production
companies, and James Kent's last movie, Testament of Youth,
having done well, Aftermath was made with an eye to being an
awards contender. Add to that they have Keira, who is a
well-known and Academy award nominated actress in the movie, as
well as Jason Clarke and Alexander Skarsgaard, both whom are
seen as well-liked and talented actors.
Nowadays in Hollywood there are either action movies that are
supposed to make money or quirky independent movies/ heavy
biopics/historicals that are made to get awards. There's not
much in-between, because investors want to see either money and
a big return on investment, or award attention...and what they
love is when they get both. This is not an indictment, it's just
the way the movie industry works and how films, like the
Aftermath, can still get made.
So, IF the movie is well-received by critics and audiences, I do
think it will be an awards contender. All I hope for though is
another great performance by Keira and a good movie, which is
why I'm crossing my fingers that it's going to be released in
the Fall of this year instead of next year. I also think that
Jason Clarke and Alexander Skarsgaard are both very fine actors
and I can't wait to see their performances as well.

I'm betting it will come out this fall for awards consideration
too. I just hope it turned out well. It probably depends on how
much potential they think it has as as serious contender. I
could see it premiering at Venice.

Well I guess we have our answer! So exciting (and then Colette
and the Nutcracker.) Oh the Joy of a Fall filled with Keira :D

Excited! It will definitely be coming out this fall. The only
question is if it turned out good enough that Fox Searchlight
thinks it has heavy Oscar potential. If they do then it should
definitely get a Venice or Telluride premiere. Or Toronto, but
lately it seems like the Oscar movies are debuting at the other
festivals.
I'd love for Keira to get her third Oscar nomination! I should
probably see Testament of Youth, to get a feel for this
director's work. The reviews were actually quite good, but it
came out in June, so I guess that studio didn't feel it should
have gotten an awards push.

WOOT! If Playlist is already writing about it, and there is a
synopsis distributed, that does make it look more likely that
it'll have a Fall release date this year.
Honestly, I just want the movie to turn out well, as well as her
performance. I've grown weary of the awards pandering, and the
big Oscar campaigns, it's so political it's disgusting. The only
positive to the movie, and possibly her, getting awards
attention is that we'll get to see a whole lot more of her.
That's it.
I would love for it to come out at TIFF, so I can see it, the
same way I got to see The Imitation Game. Honestly, hope it gets
positive reviews, Keira gets praised and it goes the festival
circuit, that's it.

Testament of Youth was an amazing movie! I saw it by chance and
loved it. It should have come out at another time but at that
poing both actors (Vikander and Harigton) were not super
wellknow (more him than her) and the director was also not
famous. But maybe this time around they will get it. Let's hope
it's great again :D
