Colette reviews

Hi everyone,
How about we post all of the review links for Colette in this
thread, as Upshot suggested.
This way, when the movie comes out (hopefully in much less than
a year) we'll have all the reviews handy in one place.
Here are the first few links and thank you to the people, mainly
Joan Bennet, who posted the links on the other Colette thread.

Wash, the director, said on twitter that the screen daily review
is his favorite.
It is so great to see Keira getting raves across the board. I am
so happy for her. She deserves this; she's worked so hard over
the years and has been under appreciated for far too long.

It is a lovely review. I do hope this is a movie that will help
define her career. It sounds like such an interesting movie and
it's great to see the positive reviews for her and the movie.

Richard Lawson (film critic for vanity fair) on twitter:
"Fully charmed by COLETTE, a cheery, sexy little biopic. Breezy
and effervescent in all its casual queerness. A nice Sundance
surprise."
"Keira Knightley is great, Dominic West is great (though could
do with less of him and more of her), and what a good film
showcase for the brilliant theater actress Denise Gough, who is
gonna eat the world"
;D ;D
I think it is safe to say that Keira is definitely a best
actress contender.

While it's great to see another positive review, I would caution
to see her as a contender this early. This year, Emily Blunt is
being set up to win all acting awards because of Mary Poppins.
And it looks like the field is going to be very crowded again
with Chloe Sevigny looking like a possible contender, as well as
Cate Blanchett, Glenn Close, and Charlotte Rampling.
I'm just going to have a wait and see attitude and we definitely
have to see what Bleeker Street will be doing in terms of
release date.
Honestly, I will be just happy to see her get positive reviews
and get critical praise for the movie, and most importantly, for
audiences to enjoy it and appreciate Keira on the big screen.

I meant contender as in she will be in the conversation, which
is great promotion for the money. I don't see Emily Blunt
winning a bunch of awards for a disney musical. Her best bet is
the golden globes. Chloe has a better chance though the material
might be too dark and bleak and pessimistic for Oscar voters. I
honestly stopped caring about awards a long time ago. The whole
thing is very political and rigged and I just got sick of seeing
undeserved actors winning over and over again. A nomination
would be great for Keira obviously because I want to see her
talents acknowledged but like you, I am also ok with this just
getting great reviews and finding a big audience.

Remember that Julie Andrews won the Oscar for the original
movie. As far as I can see, they are already setting up the PR
machine for her nomination.
I can see what you mean in terms of she'll be in the
conversation. I genuinely hope she'll be a big part of the
conversation, especially because Colette is a movie that hits at
the right time. And though she is getting some great reviews, I
think it's just too early to tell, especially as we don't know
how the US distributors plan to position the movie.
Her talents can be acknowledged by great reviews and audience
appreciation. I think both of those are worth a lot more than a
nomination and anyways, she already has two of them. I think
it's more important for the movie to do great at the box office
and for more people to see how great she is on screen. Right
now, I'm happy that critics and especially the audiences enjoyed
the movie and her performance. and it's just good to see such
positive reviews.

Ha!
So, since we've been talking about "awards consideration", here
is a tidbit from Variety who wrote a new article about Lionsgate
acquiring the U.K. distribution rights for Colette, which is
great news, because Lionsgate has a stellar record.
The interesting part in the article occurs when they write:
"Knightley’s performance as the bisexual novelist is the film’s
highlight with some even speculating it could land the two-time
Oscar nominee back in the awards hunt."

;D I still say we shouldn't get our hopes up, because it's far
to early, but this is encouraging news.

Ladies and gentlemen, here is Richard Lawson's review and it's a
FANTASTIC one! ;D
Throughout, Knightley reminds us of her star-making
charm, something that’s been kept under a bushel a bit in recent
years. It’s great to see her in peak form again; her Colette is
piquant and smart, an unpretentious sophisticate with a curious,
productive mind. Colette’s journey toward autonomy and
fulfilment is not without its bumps, and yet we’re always
certain that great things await her.
