My first game was a exhibition game with the '88 Olympic team.
I worked the 2nd half of the '87 season with Jacksonville Expos
my first AA game.
Saw a young LHSP that year that went on to the HOF.

Just before his call up in '89 I meet Robin Ventura and he
signed his card for me. One of my duties was to go down to get
the lineups for the game. Meet a lot of umpires but all the
players have retired by now. Worked from '87-'94. Did the
official scoring in '92-'94.

Hopefully you didn't teach Ventura to fight. I used to think the
world of him until he charged Nolan Ryan and got Nuggied by an
old.man.

Yes that was ugly, he was real nice when I meet him, talked to
him about his hopes for a call up. Birmingham was a big rival
of the Lookouts. Didn't get to meet all the players but most
were nice guys. I did meet Bob Costas. He is a real baseball fan
and a super nice guy. On a cold April night in '89 he flew into
Chattanooga for a Baseball Museum opening, we were still playing
a long 16 inning 1-0 game, he saw the lights and came over to
the game press box and introduce himself. Came back the next
day, a Wednesday day game, and called an inning with our radio
guy and introduced himself again, truly a nice guy.

Yeah, I remember hearing people say Costas would make a Good
Baseball Commissioner, some years back.
I remember being at a Sox game where Ventura hit a Walk Off
Grand Slam (1990ish). He was going replace Bill Melton as my
favorite ChiSox 3B. I have met Bill Melton, he is a classy guy.
Hopefully Ventura has learned to manage a Big League Team, the
Sox made me ill last year and I was calling for a change.
