PROCEDURE:
* Trial Court: Said that the degree was jointly owned
property and calculated the future earning value of the MBA and
awarded the ex-wife a portion of it
* Court of Appeals: Held that a master’s degree (MBA) does
not constitute marital property which is subject to division by
the court
* Supreme Court: Affirmed
ISSUE: Whether in a marriage dissolution proceeding a master’s
degree in business administration (MBA) constitutes marital
property which is subject to division by the court
RULES: DEGREE IS NOT PROPERTY, no exchange value
* She could have claimed unjust enrichment—all you need to
prove that the plaintiff provided something to the defendant for
his benefit, and that in good conscious, the defendant should
pay for it
CONCLUSION: She ended up getting nothing
