Minibike & More
DIR By: Isalon
Date: September 9, 2015, 1:38 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I know minibikes are use-at-your-own-risk, and I saw the
previous thread, but my minibike also disappeared before my
eyes. I am super pissed but not as pissed as the last person who
had blues and stuff, most of my stuff was gray/orange, except I
did have a good quality basket.
Anyway, thing is, my minibike wasn't even complete! I had
everything but was missing the battery. I'm pretty pissed that
the minibike wasn't even moved let alone completed and it
disappeared.
I understand that I can't ask for the minibike back, it is alpha
and all, but can I at least ask for a compromise and get back
the small engine I had put in it? I dont care about the rest (I
mean, I really do) but the small engine is the only part that I
had to choose between minibike or save for my auger/chainsaw. I
don't expect to be gifted a new minibike but it would be great
if I could get the engine.
Second question is deaths to due glitches. That drops wellness -
10 wellness each time you die. Thankfully I haven't died to
glitches, but Darkstox died 3 times glitching in his base and my
base. I guess you can get caught in log spikes? And get stuck,
and die? He died 5 or 6 times in a span of 15 minutes but 3 or 4
of them were due to glitching in the game. That's 30-40
wellness. That's a lot of wellness. Is there any way for him to
get that back? Game glitches shouldn't be players fault?
Crafting question: Is there any wiggle room on the frame output?
I know this server is vanilla and some servers do more, I'm not
asking for a bunch, maybe go from 1 to 2?
World question: It seems like it might be big, but this world is
super tiny. Especially once the regulars who have minibikes go
all over the place and hit up villages/cities, it gets really
hard to find good loot, and even harder to find awesome loot
because it's all gone. On top of that, POI's can be claimed
(such as the guy who claimed the missile silo. Super lame.)
which makes looting even harder. Loot respawn is 7 game days.
Any wiggle room on that? Anything would be better than 7 given
how small the world is and how many players we have. I haven't
met many directly in game (only a handful in passing) but I've
met them through where they've been - when I show up to find a
shotgun messiah and it's always empty. Cities are also PvP,
which makes it even harder to loot because I have to worry about
whether or not a player is around the corner. Not whining, just
saying from a player perspective, 7 day respawn time is brutal.
I would love to see 2 or 3 days but I feel if any change is
made, it won't be made to be that low.
I apologize if any of this has been covered ground (there's a
lot of forum posts) and I stress that I am not trying to whine
or complain, I'm just trying to adjust to my new home here and
make things work. I'm coming from a players perspective that's
just starting out and getting settled in, I'm not a veteran of
this server or a hardcore player that travels the map on my
minibike every day. I don't know if anyone else feels like I do
and I'm not trying to make waves, just asking questions and
putting out some food for thought.
Thank you for reading and any consideration for my questions,
it's much appreciated :-)

The minibike has been the bane of my administrative existence in
this game.
This is why I say use at your own risk, and I wrote a
dissertation on such matters here
HTML http://kamcraft.createaforum.com/general-discussion/losing-items-to-'bugs'/
It is unfortunate and I am sympatheic, but I am not going to
reimburse minibikes to set or begin setting a precedent.
To reiterate, I am sorry for your loss, but this thing has been
buggy since the start.
I gave you and Grem 700 zcoins, but if they announce they fixed
it I will most likely adopt a "wait and see" approach and allow
players to demonstrate their resolve and maturity combined with
the understanding that while it may be no one's "fault", it is
most certainly not mine as I have taken as many steps from my
end to ensure players are informed and educated in my effort to
be as proactive and transparent as possible.
And Jesus Christ will not help you venture into cities unless
you have a relationship with Him that I do not have.

The Lord goes into all the cites with me. Only problem is, He
goes off looting on his own sometimes and that's when female
boss spider zombies show up and chow down on my poor little
level 14 head.

in my opinion the minibikes are a waste of time with the amount
of bugs that they have i have only ever made 1 and i never had
any of the negative things happen to it that many others have
and i personally don't think that they are worth even making at
this point in the game maybe rent one from the shop but that's
it
but like the disclaimer that H0tr0d has flashing on the server
and the many forum posts he has posted state they are a risky
investment and they are our risks to take and ours alone to take
so if you make one consider it a rental for a undisclosed amount
of time its there till it isnt period. please stop with the
forum post on this subject we all know the risks. Take
resposibility for your actions and stop trying to pawn your loss
off on h0tr0d to fix, its your loss you knew the risks. If you
invest money with an investment firm and lose it are they going
to pay you back no and they are the ones that lost it but you
gave them permission to so its your loss.
Making a minibike is a gamble would you ask a casino to refund
money that you lost at the tables and even if you would ask
would they refund the money you took the risk of gambling let me
assure you they will not nor should they
I frankly wish that they would get rid of them until they are
stable

Thanks for the support Karnage, but they can ask. I'd rather it
be sent PM to avoid duplicating posts; that is, unless someone
makes a post documenting precise events surrounding a minibike
loss.
Example:
I did not receive a minibike after buying it in the vote store
at 12:52 EST.
I was at -3567, 5, 1400. (you could pm this to me if you wish).
(Type LE in the console for position coordinates, negatives mean
west and south.) (the console is gotten by hitting the tilde
key)
The area I was in was 5x5 with a ceiling height of 3.
I broke open walls to my east and west and nothing.
Screenshots/video attached. Output_log.txt attached for what it
is worth.
Now what the time can do is help me track things. In the server
log it can say what entity spawned at what time. I can see when
players log in etc. So if you give me a precise time, or very
close, I can look for the game spawning a minibike in the logs
to check if it shows.

"please stop with the forum post on this subject we all know the
risks. Take resposibility for your actions and stop trying to
pawn your loss off on h0tr0d to fix, its your loss you knew the
risks."
1. I have no clue how to PM anyone in forums. I know how to make
a forum post. Sorry for the ignorance.
2. How dare you ask someone to stop with the forum postings on
the subject? Clear the post and move on. You don't have to stir
the pot with negativity. That's not cool.
3. This is the kind of reaction I wanted to avoid. You put the
blame on me, as the player, that my minibike has disappeared.
Incredibly inconsiderate to put someone else on the defensive
like that especially after I was nothing but apologetic with my
original post. I am not pawning my loss off on Hotrod to fix, I
am asking if he would reimburse the engine, not the entire
thing, and he indirectly said no. It didn't hurt to ask. Also,
the notification says to USE minibikes and their baskets at your
own risk, it did not say that having an unfinished minibike
sitting there could possibly disappear.
Sorry for being new here and new to this community, I don't know
all the mods, all the specifics of the rules, and I don't know
that simply having a minibike on the ground is subject to "user
beware", I honestly thought that I could safely build it and it
would be OK - otherwise I would not have tried. Since my post, I
found out about voting and the ability to buy a minibike through
voting. I am going to save the minibike for last, or until
nearly last. If you saw my base you would see I have not much
more than a shack, I am far from an endgame player who is
whining that his minibike disappeared.
I do not hold Hotrod accountable for the loss of the minibike
and I am not the least bit upset with him, the man has more to
do with his time than go around reimbursing everyone for every
little thing that they lose. For what it's worth, I had the
minibike when I went to scavenge a nearby city and when I used
/home I noticed the minibike was gone when I got there. It isn't
in a wall or anything - my base is open concept. Unfortunately I
don't have the time log but I will be happy to be more specific
and forward information in the future, it was sometime this
afternoon. (Eastern time zone, shortly before my forum post.)
Again, I want to stress that I am not holding Hotrod
accountable, I understand the bike is gone, and I will be
proactive in getting whatever information I can when I can. I'm
not a coder, I don't delve into file details very often, I just
like to log on, gather, scavenge, and build. I am far from a
hardcore player other than the amount of free time I currently
have available to invest. I hope in the future, you reconsider
your words before putting a player who was looking for help on
the defensive.
Thanks for reading.

It's more his frustration that anything. If you don't know how
to PM on the forums, you could always ask.
While the blame may not be on you the player, the possibility
exists there was user error or something other than a "bug". The
onus is on the player to understand and accept certain risks,
and to handle it maturely and responsibly when something
frustrating or unfortunate occurs.
Being new to the forums is no crime, but not knowing the rules
is no one's fault but your own -- not reading posts or asking
questions is a deliberate choice.
The minibike bug is not a rule, nor is the "user beware" a
"rule". The "use at your own risk" is to prevent posts such as
these from flooding the forums with requests of lost things due
to Alpha.
I did not "indirectly say no" or perhaps I did not intend for my
response to be interpreted that way. I try to be tactful and
compassionate as opposed to curt because it can be seen as
aloofness or standoffish.
The thread I linked titled "Losing items to "bugs" is the second
sticky in news and announcements and covers all of this.
I'm not worried about people holding me accountable--I simply
ignore it and if they persist remove them.
There is need to be apologetic in a post about the lost minibike
but there is something to be said for taking the responsibility
to understand the rules and nature of the game yourself as
opposed to "woe is me." Ignorance is not a viable defense.
"Coding" has no relevance here, this confuses me.
Being "hardcore" also confuses me. No one on this server is
classified as "hardcore" and it isn't correctly ascribed to
whether or not someone is informed.
There is nothing wrong in asking for assistance but there is a
difference between not taking appropriate steps before asking
for assistance.
"If I told you, you would not know, you would simply have been
told. Go and study it thoroughly and one day I will ask you. You
will answer, and then you will know."
This is where I stress my dislike for drama -- enough of the
dramatics.
End of discussion.
