Those are all perfectly valid points Aknot and I do agree with
your side of it as well.
It's a tricky detail. As currently written, raiding can only
take place within the confines of announced war declarations and
I'm fine with that as is - but I also see Spider's points as
well. I'm always trying to see both sides of the fence. ;)
Having played Rust and hating the constant offline raiding and
destruction, I'm definitely not advocating free-for-all. No way.
Unannounced and secretive raids are a slippery slope which can
lead to free-for-all behaviors. Spider obviously doesn't have
that intention but other players may so I guess the line has to
       be drawn somewhere.
edit: Sorry your topic about keystones got derailed. I'm
ambivalent about changing their current strength.

Just now chiming in and I have to say that I totally agree with
Spider, but that is also based upon the fact that everyone I
have met on this server has been a top-notch fellow. Players on
this server generally don't loot the death backpack, usually
offer reparations for damages, and often provide assistance to
others without desire for future return. I also thought Aknot's
gift of lead was an excellent way to diplomatically secure his
       border with the Grimclan.
The purpose of taking a "prize" is to open the avenue for
potential conflict without creating a grief-like robbery. The
demands are made low enough that if the person wants to provide
it, the item is returned and the peace is quickly made (in the
last one we demanded a stack of water for the return of Spider's
corn). That way nothing is lost except a few boards for a new
door and some laughs when players find people's death bags
laying about their base in pits and traps. However, if the
offended player wants to have some PVP action, he can raid back
to get a prize for prisoner exchange, or even go in for the
       player kill.
As soon as my base is established it is my intent to utilize
that equipage to facilitate the entry to a location. Killing
zombies is cool and all, but it's nothing compared to the mental
demands of navigating a player base without perishing. Then
there is the youthful delight that comes from the danger of
being caught in the act of exploration. I was actually a little
disappointed that no one bothered to raid my base in the last
       build.

Ya I was just getting to the point where I could start raiding
because how messy this builds start was. Looking forward for a
       fresh clean non crashing start.

My "final" thought on this, as it seems to be wrapping up (and
as a further aside, let me say how wonderful it is that the
people on this server take the time to DISCUSS such things)
       would be this:
A list be maintained at the forum that current and new players
would need to check. It would be a RAID/DO NOT RAID list. If you
are prepared and want to declare your base "raid-able" you check
off that "column". Don't want to be raided - You check off that
       "column".
The only possible problem with this I thought at first is you
would need to divulge your location. So people seeing you in the
"raid-able" column would know what base you own. But then I
thought, "no". You would see someone on the list and then it
would be up to you to stake out the place you think it is and be
damn sure you have the right base. You need to adhere to rules
(of not randomly attacking) and the possibility of getting
caught scouting, not announcing who you are and "possibly"
getting shot by the owner due them having the right at that
point to defend - since you did not reply and are most likely up
       to no good.
This would give newcomers and everyone time to get their base
ready as they see fit for "raiding". You would not need to
announce to someone you are "coming for them" - they already
basically said everyone could. Those on the no raiding side have
nothing to worry about (other than an "error" made if they are
raided, which seems it would be resolved diplomatically). I am
sure once someone on the list has their base confirmed, that
knowledge may quickly circulate the server. So, be careful what
you wish for. What starts out as one person taking a interest in
finding you and raiding you, may turn into several.
Raid-ables and non Raid-ables alike would still be PVP fodder in
all the "normal" designated zones as already established.
Not a perfect no chance for error solution, but it might get us
us fairly close to a comfort level for everyone. Would be up for
discussion if you can switch back and forth between "lists". I
would say, "no". At least not with any great frequency. One,
that would keep Madman from constant maintenance of the list and
two, keep people changing sides to cast "blame". Perhaps every
month or shorter/longer, a notice can be sent that you now have
the chance to change your raid status.....See, not perfect. :P

Sounds like some good ideas SilensVentus. I’ve been thinking of
something like that also. I don’t think most people raid right
off the bat it’s something you do after you are established and
have the supplies to do it so making some sort of opt in list
would be nice. I still think the games not ready for you to
track someone specific effectively seeing as you can’t know who
you are tracking without getting in melee range. I’ve been
trying to come up with some way people who are opting in for
raiding to distinguish their base from non-raiding bases that
way when you’re out and about and stumble apon someone’s base
you can tell at a glance if they are game for raiding. It would
need to be something that did not give away people base because
some people use concealment as their main defense, it would also
need to not interfere with people building design. Possibly a
new recipe item that madman can add in? Some of the things I’ve
been brain storming on: open raiders place a decretive block
above their entrance door, or a campfire placed in front of your
door (only problem with these is for example my base is
completely visible but has a hidden entrance that you’re not
going to find so a player would not know if was game for raiding
or not). Also to add to what you said about the raiding list, if
you are up for raiding someone then you must also be checked up
for people raiding your base, only seems fair. I think if we all
put are heads together than we can come up with some way to
distinguish raiding bases from non-raiding bases in game. Sad
thing is all this could be solved if we could write note or make
       signs.

Ok I just looked through all the items in cheat mode and here
what I got we could possible use as visible open for raiding
       notifier in game.
*Ice sickles-can be placed on the outside of any block or
inverted on the ground and would be easy to place on any visible
blocks or around your front door to signify openness to raiding
*Grave Stones- could be placed around your base or at the
entrance to show you are game
*Spillway Lake Sign- Could be placed around your entrance or
base to show you are ready for raiding
What do yal think about adding a recipe for 1 of these and use
it as a prepared for raiding sign we could place around or on
our base, or around or above our entrance door? I kinda like the
ice sickles their small and don’t take up much room, could
be place almost anywhere and the recipe could just be snow and
       water or something easy.
(This would be used in conjunction with an Opt in Raiding List)
Also please remember this is completely different from War and
PVP this would signify you are confidence in your building
design and are ready to have your base tested against other
players, and in no way consents to being assassinated while in
       your base.

After talking to you in game, I now understand better what you
are saying and I agree with you. I will see what we can do to
       implement this.

Definitely needs to be some way to mark bases because mistaken
identity happened to me *cough* SPIDER *cough* and I got my base
raided when he thought it was someone else. ::)
Until a better PvP system is implemented for group play and
multiplayer servers - it's just too hard to tell who is who
unless you're right up close so we have to come up with ways to
       identify ourselves and our bases.

I think we can use the existing decorative "face" stone block
recipe. Just place it above your first entry door, where ever
that might be. If you see that stone block above the door then
you know they are raid ready and willing. This way you don't
have to make your location obvious if you are trying to hide it.
Edit: Just don't make it part of your doors archway because it
       is weaker than reinforced blocks.
