Rules - Come the next Wipe - Discussion
   DIR By: BraizD
       Date: February 2, 2015, 3:06 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
To Madman and all other Survivors,
I am writing this post to acquire the new rule set that will be
established come the next wipe (Very excited for the next wipe
       ;D)
I would like to have this forum post open for discussion as well
as possible rule additions / clarifications.
I will start with a couple things that have been on my mind and
feel they would benefit the community and not myself:
       - Land Claims: 2x when owner is on (no higher, maybe only 1x),
100+ times when off (or higher). REASON: this promotes pvp
when the owners are on. And prevents the cowardly raid that
happens when the base inhabitants are not there to defend. I
too am victim of the raiding when nobody is around. Tis only
nature for self preservation. But this will promote community
among the pvp-ers as well as some fun.
       - /home command removed - many reasons behind this, and was
       discussed in a previous thread
       - If you have a base ONLY on the PVE side, and you partake in
the PVP / raiding of another's base - your base is then forfeit
to be raided. REASON: I don't believe it is beneficial to the
community to have "I can do this, but you cant" mentality. Now,
if you have a PVE base and a PVP base, then by all means - raid
/ pvp away. Cause you are now offering your defenders an
opportunity to raid you (the base in the pvp zone ONLY)
       - Stop signs no longer work. sorry, that's why we have zones
now! If you are in a pvp zone, your base is subject to raid at
ANY time no matter the progress of construction!
And Madman, it would be greatly appreciated if there was some
insight as to what might change, be added / removed, etc.
If you are currently working on the new rule set, it would be
nice to see them ahead of time.
Thanks all for listening to (reading) my discussion
These are my opinion and are subject to change based on feedback
nor does it NEED to be this way. I just see these as being
beneficial to the community and allow fairness to all parties.

I was also wondering about "the Rules" for this server. Do we
have a set of rules in place somewhere that can be viewed? I
know this server was around about 7 months or so before I
joined, but I was looking for an older post/thread/announcement
somewhere of the official rules and could not find one.
So if there is one, could we make it easier to find? (Especially
for old men like me who may have damaged a few brain cells in
       the late 1970's?)
Or if there is not one, could we get one up somewhere? Madman
could add to/amend as necessary, of course. I just think if the
rules are listed and blatantly obvious, then no one could plead
ignorance. (Hope I'm not off the mark here - just my thoughts)

Since I am hoping the new zone will be completely lawless and
people are free to do whatever they want. I am suggesting there
would be no rules for the PVP section. Though the suggestion
that a PVE base is forfeit of the protection once they enter the
south is something I agree with.
Considering the claim block suggestion I would have to disagree.
The most effective way to gain entry into a base is when the
defenders are offline. There is a simply a greater advantage to
the defender when they are online. For example an individual or
a group of people with less member attempting to raid a base
with them online is nearly impossible. In addition the defenders
get spawned behind a fortified location, while the raiders have
to defend themselves from attack and break through the defenses.
Therefore, I like the current claim block setting and believe it
       provides adequate protection.

Lets clarify: If a PVE Person enters the PVP zone, they are
more than welcome to pvp. But RAIDING a anothers base now
forfeits their PVE protection. I am all for people to come
down and pvp. But raiding a base is different. That is your
home. As soon as someone defiles it, you want to enact revenge,
but you cant because they use the protection of the PVE side.
That is what I am trying to get away from. And I believe what I
had posted was appropriate. Again, if they come down to pvp
without trying to raid someone base, by all means, please do so.
In regards to the land claim block. I don't want to spend hours
trying to break into someone elses base when they are offline
cause they put 100 doors in to prevent you from breaking in.
What pvp does that provide. NONE! What does provide PVP is the
owners online. THey too have to leave their base for materials
or other pvp options. They are online, and it provides you an
opportunity to raid. Also, if you feel someone is just going to
sit in their base waiting for you to raid, GREAT, bring a bigger
group or ally yourself with another group. This provides
       interaction. Not the shady alternative.

       Well, there's this...
  HTML http://www.groundzerogaming.club/rules.html
For once I'm going to agree with Villain. For smaller groups, a
100x land claim strength for offline players is ridiculous. Yes,
right now it's 10x online and 15x offline, and I think only 1x
or 2x for online is a little ridiculous. Some people *cough*
make quite lengthy runs to towns and such to gather loot. A lot
of said loot in the case of HBB goes to new players or players
struggling to find certain books or schematics.
I would like to do some testing to see the difference to break
through certain blocks with the current strengths, but I don't
think that large of a gap is really required.
I'd like to add I am still in favor of GZ being non-PvP on top
of no building. I don't think it'd be fair to make PvErs have to
PvP in the first zone just to get out alive.

I am pretty sure what was discussed in past weeks was that GZ
and everything north will be PVE only. In regards to no
building in GZ. don't really care too much about that.
What I would care about is someone building a PVE base that
greedily encompasses a valuable item spawn point. Cause you
wont be able to "raid" that base and that item spawn point will
       be inaccessible.
In regards to the 100x land claim strength when offline: It
doesn't have to be 100x, but should be greater then the current
       15. And if there is a great difference between Offline and
Online durability, it would be preferable for the raiding party
to do it when someone is online. This adds conflict and
strategy. I Just don't want to sit for 5 minutes per door even
when someone is Online - cause then I would be a target and
would only want to raid that persons base when they are offline.
If the Online durability is too great, then there is no reason
for someone to want to raid your base when you are online.
Hence the desire to lower the durability while owner is online.
What pvp is there to be had if someone only raids when you are
offline? Isnt that why you are in the PVP zone?

My biggest concern for the PVP side is storage. Under current
programming if you have a secure storage chest and you break the
chest it becomes a searchable chest allowing raiders to take
things selectively and not clean someones molds out for no
reason ect. If you do the same with a gunsafe the items are
deleted and a fresh loot table spawns, and if you do the same
with a storage box it is simply destroyed and the items are
lost. My thoughts are that PVP players should either be required
to store their items only in secure storage containers OR
raiders should be able to break any gun safes or storage boxes
they find. The alternative to this is PvP players simply hiding
their items in crates/safes that can't be raided or broken
essentially becoming defacto immune to raids. Secure storage
bins under land claim take about the same effort with a chainsaw
as a reinforced concrete block does with an auger so it's not
like you're sacrificing security if you use them either.
Obviously for PvE side it doesn't matter at all.

I see a number of people who are saying things about land claims
and door limitations. Now for Capture the flag I don't think
that's a bad idea. I think capture the flag can be fun and I
would understand that it's a casual weekends only thing with a
door limit of say 30ish would be fine IMO. However when it comes
to PvP this isn't Rust or Dayz where you have superficial bases
and do a smash and grab in 15 minutes. The PvP in this game is
mediocre at best and I hope A11 changes that but from an FPS
perspective this is one of the worst games I've ever played.
It's a wonderful base building/survival sim with some PVP
elements. However and if you limit door/land claim building
you're really taking away a lot of the fun of the game which is
watching people use their creativity to build underground mazes
and giant towers. These are of course my opinions and having
said that they're totally subjective but those are my thoughts.
Sorry off tangent but you replied as I did braizd and while I am
open to the much less protected while online much more while
offline than the strategy becomes waiting till they go out to
scavenge and raiding them in 15 minutes with no PvP. Also I'd
worry about combat logging. I mean someone can be like yea sorry
time for work later and than you're done raiding. Seems hard to
       enforce that
