       The coming of Woodbury.....
   DIR By: Aknot
       Date: January 13, 2015, 3:15 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
There has come a time in this great Nation to gather under
another as ours did before us when we declared Independence from
       England.
When the next Great Wipe comes and it will come there will be a
separation. If lawlessness and wonton murder is your cup of tea
you will find yourself South of the border. However if you are
one of Freedom and Rights for all, if you want to walk the
streets at night only fearing the undead scourge and not your
fellow man you will come North.
I am sure there are benefits in going South however they do not
outweigh the peace and prosperity one will gain in going North.
As stated the North will not be without peril. The undead seem
to get smarter (if one could call a shambling mass of dead flesh
intelligent), larger in number, and of varying traits. We now
have undead that can scale walls, shrieking when they contact
humans or their settlements, we have beloved pets that have
turned against us, and officers that once swore to protect us
swelling with a burning desire to end our existence. Who knows
       what the future will bring.
It is the future of our existence that I am concerned with and
drives me to proclaim and claim from the scourge a town or city
if you will and christen it Woodbury and situate myself as
       Mayor.
I can hear it now… But Aknot why are you Mayor?
I know the first thought that comes into people’s minds if the
Mayor will be telling us what to do, I don’t need no one
       ordering me around…
A Mayor does not order anyone around unless they fall directly
under the Chain of Command of said Mayor. I don’t see the need
for a CoC for our community. I do see a need for someone such as
myself to put together a working agenda for said town/city, what
is to be expected from EVERYONE in the town/city and an unbiased
mediator when issues arise. When all else fails we have the
great Server entity in the sky we can go to however I’m hoping
all issues can be resolved amicably within our community.
Remember this will be a place for the people by the people and
as such requires work from us all. However there still needs to
be rules in place. The rules that I will be placing on Woodbury
are as follows. They will be marked as (D) or (ND). D denotes
the ability to debate the rule into something different or
removed. ND is a rule that is firm and is a condition in living
in Woodbury. There would have to be a very good reason and a
large majority speaking against this rule for it to become
       Debatable.
As Mayor I will break down the rules into sections that I think
provides all of us with a better understanding.
       Those sections are:
Housing – Where you can live, what you can do with your living
       arrangements.
Police/Fire Services – Wall patrols and imminent danger issues
       to include weapon/ammo distribution.
Communication – Knowing where everyone is, being able to ask for
help and get assistance in an emergency.
Education – Informing the less knowledgeable in the ways of
       survival.
Transportation – Where you can go, how you can go.
Construction – What you can build/destroy where you can build.
Community Services – People working for and supporting their
       town/city
Food Services – Farming and how food is to be distributed
First Aid/Medical – Locations for First Aid and Medical services
       along with shelters in place.
Other – Anything not covered in the above sections.

       HOUSING
       1.
assigned/granted as a first come first serve basis. As Mayor I
get first choice. Our second member of the community is
Buckmaster he shall have second choice. From there as people
choose to become part of the community they shall be given
choice. No reserving for others unless you are head of a group.
       (D) If you are a group of 3 or more you have (if available) the
       option of b. below.
       a.
       be:
       i.
       ii.
       iii.
       iv.
       v.
       b.
inhabited by “Groups”(depending on town/city layout).
       c.
may not remove items (furniture, food, etc.) from the buildings
you scout. Most homes come with “X” amount of stuff and people
may base their choice on that. Later you have the ability to
create those items or speak to your neighbor they may willingly
give or trade for those items.
       2.
normalcy to our lives. As such there will be certain rules as to
what you are permitted to do with your building. This takes into
consideration the safety and welfare of all and the community as
it is viewed as a whole.
       a.
       i.
requested. This includes adequate food, water and medical
attention to allow them the ability to survive and continue to
be a member of the community.
       ii.
community member if needed shelter for the night or in times of
duress. These areas (kitchen or living room) can be segregated
from the rest of the house by locked doors and reinforced
partitions. At the owners discretion a container may be placed
there unlocked with small amounts of food, water and medical. It
is requested that those using shelter do not take advantage of
this if it is provided and make an attempt to replace items
       used.
       b.
       i.
containers, etc. Except for noted in 2.a.ii above.
       ii.
       any color, size, or material.
       iii.
       campfires.
       c.
       i.
close to your living area the issue with possibly crossing into
someone else’s area and or undermining your foundation or
another’s is to great. Mining claims will be discussed in the
       Construction section.
       ii.
the North. There is no need for Keystones in our community. If
there is ever a question of someone destroying another’s
property the great entity Server will address the issue and
either a warning will be given to the person(s), the person(s)
will be banned from our community, or at the great Servers
discretion the person(s) may be removed from our world.
       d.
       i.
This includes but is not limited to:
       1.
       2.
       3.
       ii.
       your property.
       iii.
       iv.
like in kind materials if damaged, destroyed or missing.
       v.
like in kind colors and materials when building or expanding.
       vi.
(back front and side). This is to easily identify friend from
foe. Please do not place an overabundance of lighting to disturb
neighbors or draw attention. Do not use smoke barrels and be
consistent in your materials. (torches or candles)
       e.
       i.
       anywhere on your property.
       ii.
       Berries, etc.)
       iii.
your home and the community as a whole.
       iv.
Igloo type) outside to the side (either) of the home for parties
and cookouts as long as it is kept presentable.
       f.
       i.
       the undead.
       ii.
the back area that can be visible from street view. (see 2.e.iv
       for the only exception)
       iii.
       home.
       iv.
front that extend to the sidewalk or further. If there is no
       sidewalk common sense shall prevail.
       v.
owned or owned by another. Of course if the other property owner
agrees to the structure that is acceptable.
This concludes the section on Housing. Please be advised we as a
community are responsible for bringing about ‘normalcy’ and a
feeling of a community. Only by adhering to rules with this be
       accomplished.
It is understood that it WILL take time for some of these rules
to be followed. However they will be followed.
Depending of the size of the city/town there may be sections
allotted to ‘free build’ allowing community members to express
themselves. (or possibly on the outskirts of town) If this is
permitted a few of the rules above, depending on the free build
locations will still need to be enforced.
       POLICE/FIRE SERVICES
A community has a right to protection from outside entities and
the assurance that in the time of need all available will
respond. This section will address how in Woodbury this will be
       accomplished.
       1.
room for possible growth) a wall will be erected around the
community. At the base on the exterior will be no less than a
two block wide and one block deep row of Tree Trunk Spikes. It
is the responsibility of EVERYONE to assure the wall remains
standing and free of damage keeping its structural integrity
supported. It is the responsibility of EVERYONE to assist in the
building of said wall and its protections. This can include but
not be limited to construction supplies or actual building.
       a.
       i.
       concrete.
       ii.
       iii.
preventions) to prevent crawlers from crawling over.
       iv.
       least level 2 wood blocks.
       v.
       way’ around the complete perimeter.
       vi.
the wall lighting shall also be placed to observe and easily
identify entities outside the wall at night.
       vii.
       access to the walk way.
       viii.
contain Antibiotics, Pistols, Hunting Rifles, SMGs, Sniper
Rifles and ammo for such AS AVAILABLE.
       2.
needs entry/exit control or just a wall.
       a.
       i.
Tungsten may be used and or be used as a replacement at a later
       date.
       ii.
       1.
       2.
       3.
enclosed area (3x3 or bigger) with gun ports to dispatch any
       undead that enter.
       4.
       5.
is being chased the only door that is required to be closed in
an emergency situation is door 3. This allows the community to
address the threat and then secure the other doors.
       6.
where doors and kill areas are concerned.
       3.
ladder vehicles or a volunteer Fire Brigade there are “fires”
that can break out at any time. These fires may be a wall
breach, a large (horde) of undead approaching the town/city, or
even an internal break out of the undead.
       a.
able in the defense of the town/city.
       i.
       town/city.
       b.
community members outside the town/city if able.
       i.
person and the situation will not ‘put you out’ or jeopardize
the safety and security of the town/city.
       c.
able to outrun/maneuver most zombie types. An abled bodied
person most often is able to defend against and defeat 1 to 5
undead with the basic of weapons. This does not mean don’t call
for help just make sure it is help you need.
       d.
concise and articulated well. This will allow for responders to
gauge the speed in which to arrive and the possible scenario
they may encounter. Nothing like 7 people showing up to
dispatch a dog that has someone cornered when one would have
       suffice.
       COMMUNICATION
Communication is paramount. All successful businesses,
organizations, and entities before the wipe had communication.
Communication is key to success; if the left hand does not know
what the right hand is doing there can be no celebratory clap.
In order to promote Communications the following needs to be
considered. While I won’t make them all mandatory (first one is)
it is strongly advised to use one if not all of the suggestions
       below.
       1.
allows a quick and easy way to locate a community member. This
is paramount in “Fires” above. There is no reason NOT to be
friends with everyone in the community.
       2.
groups of people can talk real time. I will approach the great
Server and ask if we can get a room that only we can use.
       3.
of this world (yes even those in the North) is important for a
healthy world. Please be active on the forums helping others
when you can, having fun and just generally being sociable. You
can also PM members that may have different hours then you
       setting up trade agreements etc.
       4.
feature. This means everyone sees what you say. This is an
archaic method of communicating. Sometimes texts are missed.
While a method of communication #2 is more robust.
What need not to be discussed in the forums or in game text are
issues with the community, members thereof or other entities of
       the server.
If you have an issue with the community or a member of the
community please see me. If you do not feel I have adequately
addressed the issue or the issue is with me you have other
options. However please do not air our slightly dirty laundry
for all to see. As civilized individuals im sure we can come to
       an amicable solution.
If all else fails or you feel the issue needs to be resolved or
addressed immediately please contact the great Server directly.
He can (and prefers) a PM via the forum. Please note the great
Server should only be approached with world based issues that
are under his prevue. Within reason I do not believe he will
bother with the way we run our community.
       EDUCATION
This is easily addressed with you can provide good sound
accurate advice or information when someone asks for help or you
can’t. If you can you should always respond to a community
member’s question. If you feel the need to correct a possible
incorrect answer given please be mindful of the way you present
       the correction.
“I believe that is made with 2 iron bars instead of three” is
much more pleasant then “Hey you idiot its 2 bars not 3.”
In answering questions posed from our cousins in the South. If
you attempt to answer the question please do so as you were
speaking to a community member. You may also need to use smaller
words as they tend to lean more towards the barbaric side of
human nature instead of the articulate and civilized.
       TRANSPORTATION
As we hopefully grow as a community we may find the need to move
about the world. I believe the great Server would prefer if we
stay North of the border at all times. Granted there may be
conditions that require us to go South of the border however
those will be covered in the OTHER section.
I will consider with the communities bye in either a
subterranean method or raised platform method of connecting
homes and POIs within our town/city. This will promote travel
within the city at night without fear of undead.
We may also one day discover a way to cover long distances in a
shorter amount of time. My first thought is create a community
resource for those that will loot other cities and buildings in
the surrounding area. However again maybe we can have a
       community decision on that.
       CONSTRUCTION
Construction will largely depend where Woodbury ends up. If it
is a small area with ‘houses’ construction rules will be
different opposed to a larger ‘grey’ type city usually
       associated with the destroyed zones.
However the constants will always be no mining within the city
proper and buildings must compliment the environment Woodbury
ends up in. No plain reinforced concrete buildings in an area
       with a majority of ‘houses’.
Mining will be permitted with an entry point 3-5 blocks from the
wall. Extending down and under the wall. For all purposes mining
(except in special cases) will be done outside the wall. Your
mining points should be closest to your selected home.
Freedom of expression. If you prefer to create something out of
the norm, ask. We can see as a community if it would be
acceptable inside the wall or outside the wall. We want people
to be able to express themselves however we don’t want that
expression at the cost of the community as a whole.
Any expressions of Freedom I would like to be expressed AFTER we
secure the walls. This allows us to have a closed secure
community that one can reside in and travel to their expressions
at their leisure. It also suppresses the thought that some may
have that people are using supplies for the town/city.
Once the town/city is secure individuals can start to branch out
knowing they have a solid and secure home to return to.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
       COMMUNITY SERVICE
Everyone needs to work to make this successful. This includes
people going out on scavenging runs, people mining rock, iron
and other materials and others building. We can’t be expected to
       watch one another.
That means at the beginning it will be tough. The more people we
have might make you think it will be easier. However it is not
what if everyone decides or wants to build? We all need to be a
Jack of all trades and a master of none….. UNTIL we get a proper
community going with food, water, shelter and security. Then if
a few people just want to farm they will be responsible for
keeping the crops growing, cultivated and plant what we need.
Same with miners, crafters and builders.
So we may be cowering in an attic or rooftop for the first
couple of weeks only venturing out during the day.
Trust me in the long run it will be worth it.
       FOOD SERVICES
In the long run it will end up being take what you need replace
what you take. We may have a person that plants and controls
farms and another that hunts. However in the beginning please
       don’t horde food.
We need to stay alive together for this to work. Back in the day
when we had movies do you remember the one person that had the
chocolate bar stashed taking nibbles while everyone else was
       starving? Don’t be that person.
We will setup a location for farming. It will be a priority. It
will need a location that will afford expansion. Potatoes, Corn
and Blue Berries are a priority in that order.
       FIRST AID/MEDICAL
I envision at first everyone looking out for each other. As with
food don’t horde medical supplies. If you have 3 Antibiotics you
       only really need one.
Once we get situated I would like to see some thought in placing
1 or more shelters though out the town/city. Within them will be
a container with food, water, and Medical supplies to use in an
       emergency.
Again we may have someone volunteer to make sure they control
and can create various medical supplies and keep the containers
       stocked.
       OTHER
       1.
you can request a favor from the great Server. All I ask is that
you do it outside the city walls about 10 blocks away. If you
can do it around the gates that far out even better the cars
when summoned will create a barrier of sorts. The reason I ask
this is we are trying to keep the inside of the town/city clean
and safe. So please keep your gimmes outside the walls.
       2.
that decide to not come North or not participate within our
community. Please do not assist them with community materials.
This does not mean you can’t give someone a jar or two of water
or an antibiotic if we have set up a system. What this means is
do not compromise the community when assisting another not part
       of the community.
       3.
the communities. Anything you obtain in a crate from paying
tribute (or gimme) to the great Server is yours. You don’t have
to share or help the community with it. Anything you gain from
an air dropped crate should be used for the community.
       4.
However please do not (as in 2 above) compromise the community.
Once we have a wall and a farm etc. take what you can create on
your own (or replace) and trade or support your South team. It
does nothing but enhance the world overall.
These rules are subject to change. They may seem like a lot but
they are all just common sense in the greater effort in creating
       a thriving community.
Any questions feel free to contact me. Want to be “in” post here
and you will have a plot of your choice. Want to join but don’t
quite like a rule. Ask to change it or ask why it is there.
       Your Future Mayor,

       Welcome SilensVentus and Cardi.
I don't see the great wipe coming until late Feb. Feel free to
post ideas and suggestions about where to live or any other
       topic.
My hope is we can all hide and come together keeping everyone at

Well quite honestly I hope we have enough people to disperse
sleeping bags and make it a true Non Zombie zone inside the
walls. I need to plot out the size we end up with the amount of
people. Then request people place bags/beds in certain area.

Lol - I couldn't help but notice that these are so similar to
the covenants and restrictions on a subdivision plat (sorry -
something i have been doing for 30 years, so could not help but
       note the comparison)
I have to commend you on your undertaking, but I am still unsure
of my plans. There are only two things that make me hesitate,
but I understand their need when building a community like this.
The clearing out of trash and the mining restriction will
probably keep me from living there (but I will probably come to
visit/trade as long as that is not a problem)...and again, I
understand the need for the restrictions (especially the mining
       - not a good idea with folks living in such close proximity.
But I do like to have my mine close by and accessible from my
base...and I don't want to "clear out the trash" because it will
not respawn if removed. Again, not completely sure of my plans
as of yet...who knows? I may go the "traveling salesman" way of
       BraizD. We will see.
But regardless of my thoughts - best of luck to Woodbury and I
hope it is successful for you :)

The miniscule loot you get from trash (after getting situated)
is not worth the blight it places on the neighborhood.
and yes I had Home Owners Association in mind when I was writing
this. :D So a lot of it wont really be enforced. Of course it
depends on the local. If it is a nice little neighborhood with
houses, trees that looks like Mayberry I would like to keep it
       clean.
A dead city with rubble all around not so much.
As for mining. Go out your back door continue til you hit a
wall. If you have a place near a wall it will be just like it is
in your backyard. Its all about location.
Anyhoo any residents of the North are welcomed to stop by.

As far as the locale choice, I would prefer a "sunlit" area. No
snow, burnt forest, wasteland. I suppose snow biome would be OK
if it was the only choice nearby. So, plains, forest (maples),
forest (pines) or desert. Obviously away from GZ, but no need
for the high "thousand" range (which would kind of defeat the
idea of a community accessible to those that are not residents.
For the "size" - I have stumbled across several in my latest
trek out into the 7000's. There are some that only have 4-5
buildings. I have seen gigantic ones on the order of Diersville
(from Navesgane map) that have at least the same or even greater
number. Found one as big as a GZ sized city, but with normal
       houses.
I have also seen a couple of towns that have 10- 15 buildings. I
nice little suburban retreat, size-wise. I think that would be
       the ideal size.
Of course we will be at the mercy of the wipe/regeneration and
where and what type of towns spawn........I think??
I assume that has happened each time. Truthfully, I have never
know whether Madman (the game/server) is able to generate the
same copy of the map we are playing on, with the POIs all the
same and in the same place? I would think not. But I have not
       followed such "talk".
I just assumed each REGEN was a totally different map, as it
happens in my single player game.
Regardless, I'll live pretty much anywhere as long as we can
       have some Sun.
