Yes within reason. There is no challenge if Bills knows I am
offline and have no way of defending myself or my property.
There is no 'fear' if I know Bill is offline and I dig into his
base to take his loots. Especially if he has no way of finding
       out who did it.
I fully support Bill and me making our intentions known and
       agreeing on terms of 'raiding'.
Also if Bill has a super fort and I have a wooden shack where is
level of effort going for me to get retribution? Just raid the
little guys making their life more miserable, which in turn will
make them want to go someplace else as they cant get a foothold.

i am all for raiding, what fun! I simply cringe at the cost for
less established players. I also cringe at the idea of loosing
ALL my stuff in a single evening while offline. I also cringe
at having to abandon my pretty fort, but I am willing to go with
whatever I suppose. I suppose I would have to abandon the Grim
Fortress, go underground and play as a gopher. I don't see any
particularly good way to regulate such warfare. We can say "no
excessive griefing," but can't enforce it so it doesn't matter.
We can say "No excessive looting" but can't enforce it so it
doesn't matter. In fact the only rule that can actually be
enforced is who shoots who because it's recorded. Thus, if we
allow raiding, I suppose it's open unrestricted warfare with the
goal of totally debilitating the enemy. As Sherman said "War is
cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is,
the sooner it will be over. Every attempt to make war easy and
safe will result in humiliation and disaster."
My experience on these servers with lots of unenforceable rules
is that my team and I follow them carefully while the guy next
door does not. It ends up being Vietnam all over again on our
       little game server.
Thus, if it's war, let's go to war. Or, I suppose we could
restrict warfare to gentlemens agreements between players. that
way they make and enforce their own rules governing themselves.
But we at team Grim will do whatever the community wants.

Even in our modern era we live within a certain code of conduct
as pertains to combat. The curious thing about WW2 is the
overwhelming predominance of poisonous gases that each nation
had in abundance, but it all lingered without being used even
though the entire continent was being reduced to ruins (and even
though it had been used extensively in the war previous).

Ladies, ladies, you're both beautiful, so don't split the
alliance just as we enter a war. XD
