       Spider!!
We -had- this discussion in teamspeak! *gets Mom voice out*
I told you no one was going to agree if you argued about the
self-imposed no-looting thing. It just doesn't even make sense.
While on one hand, changing the server's physical settings to be
NO loot respawn *is* most definitely forcing a playstyle (rule)
on the entire server population. Asking you to modify your own
playstyle voluntarily is only you enforcing your own rules, not
       the entire server.
There are some folks (like me) who choose our own self-imposed
rules outside of the PvP ones for example. I do not shoot
anyone, even looting a supply crate, unless provoked first. If
someone beats me to a supply crate, then yay for them, they won.
I'm not going to shoot them over it. Now if I got to the supply
crate first and they shoot at *me* then yes I am absolutely
going to fire back and defend myself.
See how that works? That's not exactly how it's described in the
PvP rules, but that's my own personal rule. I also don't destroy
people's hard work (bases) even if they don't have a stop sign
up. I have no motivation to unless I'm at war with that party.
I *impose* my own self-control in the game because that's how I
       choose to play.
If I were to decide that at no point in time will I go back and
re-loot a container because I am going for 'realistic' gameplay
(I'll avoid the "HR" dispute about that) - then that's a self
imposed rule or challenge I've set for myself. No one else is
obliged to follow my rules but me.
If the server sets the rules (via the settings), now I am
*forced* to comply and maybe I don't like that playstyle and
will go to another server which is less stringent.
By forcing others to play that way, you may lose people from the
server and gain others who are less desirable (thieves/bandits)
in my opinion. If you *want* the challenge of thieves and
bandits then start a war with someone and challenge them to raid
your base. That's the way we have the server set up and there's
even a forum for declaring war on clans / persons so you can do
       that.
I just need to help clarify that portion of this argument as I
feel some of you are getting a little heated about that
definition (forced playstyle) and felt I should reiterate what
that means. Voluntary playstyle choices is not forcing gameplay.

Clarification: No one in the argument on either side has
suggested 2-3 day loot timer. Most have said they are "ok" with
lengthening the loot respawn timer, and Madman said he's going
to adjust it to 30 in-game days when he gets back for a trial
run. Pretty sure that's not the argument here.

Lupa's point here "I *impose* my own self-control in the game
because that's how I choose to play.", is one that I probably
buried within my previous post. Much the same as when I start a
single player game I turn off the "cheat" mode. I basically play
SP and MP to "survive". I find what I find out in the
wilderness. If it is easy some days, great. If I need to work
       for it on others, great.
After I posted my "loner" play style I thought, "I bet people
wonder why I even play on a Multiplayer/PVP server, if I
       generally always play a loner?".
Hmmmmm....That IS a good question ???. Took me a minute before
I could actually answer it myself.
I have done all the FPS/PVP games going back to Quake days and
all the way up to Battlefield 3. PVP in other genres is "meh" to
       me these days too.
But only the actual act of PVP. I enjoy playing on this server
first and foremost because of the people that play here. What I
get from the PVP aspect is the element of tension. I might be
killed at any moment by an actual person controlling that little
digital person. Trust me, there have been numerous times where I
happen upon many of you as I wield my trusty xbow. You don't see
me and I duck behind cover and watch you until you mosey on by.
All the time checking over my shoulder in case you have a
partner or two. That is what I get out of PVP. No need to
randomly kill. But I am certainly not against it and will do it
from time to time for "fun".
Enough derailment of thread/poll. Just wanted to throw that out
there as it kind of falls into the discussion. We can look at
loot respawn and everything else that can approached from simply
       playing the game "your" way.

My logic in saying two to three days is this:
1 hour is approximately = 1 day 7DTD land, so 24 hours is about
24 days in game. Hence by saying 2 to 3 days of real life time
covers easily the elapsed time 30 days of game time. So a
person like myself that gets about 2 to 3 hours of play time per
day sees all the loot containers replenish about every other
       day.
On a side note - Spider and I, Soup, and 2Absurb have actually
started an experiment on my server. We aren't leaving, but
wanted to find out actually for ourselves how this would affect
things, and actually try it out. Its open, as usual, and not
meant as a replacement for MM's server. To simulate the other
players we have left it open to the public no loot respawn, PvP
server. We will see how this goes, and actually get the chance
to try our idea out. Your welcome to join, or not as you see
fit. I think it is pretty safe to say with some experience we
can incorporate it into our view point.

The issue though isnt if it would work and or people will enjoy
it. The adage of 'nail two things together and someone will buy
it' comes to mind. I have no doubt in my mind that there are
people out there that would enjoy the heck out of no loot
respawn. However there are people out there that are into whips
       and chains also.
The issue is (?) trying to keep the community together.
I would be more than happy to be given the opportunity to eat
crow. May I join and if so what is the address? How many days in
are you? What is the complete rule set? (KoS, raiding no matter
       what, etc.)

open base raiding, no keystone to start however I am certain
they show up in airdrops (this was more of an accident that we

Well I might as well throw in my 2 cents. I can see both sides
       of this.
People seem to throw the pvp topic in this topic as well. So
lets look at respawning loot and pvp.
       ON an infinite
As far as respawning I just don't see turning it off will not
make it harder in the PVP aspect You would probably see less but
as far as survivability (PVE) aspect yes it would make it
       tougher.
These 2 have always been very hard to balance ever since MMOS
       like EQ came out.
I know its survival game But in reality so is most other mmos
       and rpg type games.
Ive always said in order to have healthy PVP you have to have
       Healthy PVE.
When we loot something we are hopping the top item on that
containers loot list. Because we all want the best gear and
resources so were better equipped then the other guy. This
true for every online game that has pvp and pve .
Loot respawn is needed and the chances of top tier stuff
decreased. In order to have healthy pvp. We need stuff to be
worth fighting over. With no respawn once an area is cleaned
theres no reason to go back there. So we move out further seeing
       no one for months.
For those of us who build a base in a city That is saying yes we
want pvp were here. We are guarding these precious ammo crates
you want. Oh wait then been looted oh well guess no ones coming.
Time to move on. Theres nothing to draw you in.
The other point if want pvp then you should move closer to or
in cities with resources but if 4 or 5 clans build in or near a
city it wont take long for the resources to disappear with no
respawn people will move out and separate. With respawn it can
support the clans and there can be fights in the streest because
theres a healthy pve environment that people need to go to.

I'm with ya, we need stuff worth fighting over. Loot respawn
will not affect this as much.
If zombie hordes were more a viable threat, it could force
players to be nearer other players, mebbe?

This is another issue... the game at this time is not geared for
PvP. We are essentially playing a PvE game with the ability to
PvP. TFP have said quite a few times this game currently is not
       geared toward PvP.
Can we PvP ?? Sure.... but the game is not geared for it. Ass
much as I dislike RIP and their views I have to agree with Thor
on his assessment. Also with adding in Ammo crates with army
bases you essentially say Police Stations are not as important.
So now I know I can go out further hoping to hit a po po station
       or army base....
I don't know I hate to sound all doom and gloom but I think
these changes are a very bad idea.
