GZ-Town Ideas (PvP)
DIR By: Lupa

---------------------------------------------------------
So NegativeX brought up some good points in his post about the
RGW map and I thought I'd post my ideas in a separate topic
rather than continue to co-opt his thread since mine is more
about the 0,0 Central hub (I like to call it GZ town).
I'd like some more PvP discussion about this to see what others
think as I know players on our server are divided in play style
and PvP preference.
Currently, we have the rule set to NO PvP in GZ Town (0,0) so
that players have somewhere neutral to go and scavenge / get
situated their first few days on the server as new players or
when there's a wipe / restart.
While I did appreciate this as a new player myself (I set up
camp on a rooftop and looted an apartment building to get
started) - I now look back and wonder if it wouldn't have been
more fun to have GZ be PvP on the way Dierville was on the old
map. That way, I could choose to go into it and risk getting
shot while looting, or not.
What makes GZ town different than Dierville is that it's much
much bigger and is full of large buildings rather than just a
collection of little houses. It's MUCH easier to get in and out
of without being noticed too much by other players or zombies
either one.
The cities in the new map are just BEGGING to be warzones. They
seem set up that way as if the devs really wanted that to be the
focus there...so many cool buildings to hide in and the best
loot (books, weapons, gun safes etc) is there.
So while I was all onboard with making GZ Town Neutral before we
started, I now think maybe we should swing it around the other
way and make it the PVP capital of the map. Players who do not
want to PvP have plenty of options to go elsewhere now as we now
know the map spawns plenty of POI's and even other whole cities
out there ripe for looting and less populated.
What if we encouraged players to build bunkers, forts and
hideouts IN town instead of spread out all over the map? This
would keep the "spreads" from happening so much as those who
like a lot of action could build PvP hideouts in town and play
that way. While I don't like that ALL the time - I'm like
40/30/30 (Explorer/Builder/PvP) - I would totally take one of
those old crumbling buildings in the city and wall off one floor
or section as a pvp base...reinforced walls, doors - just enough
room for me and a few friends, that's it... I wouldnt' take over
a whole block or even a whole building - what's the point of
working that hard - more to defend and it will just get wiped
anyways?
I'd go for this change, would you?

Hi Lupa,
I generally don't weigh in on where to PVP or not and I am
always happy with whatever is decided. I can easily avoid it if
need be or hunt and kill and be killed for the sport if it.
I would be quite fine with making 0,0 PVP. For any new players I
think the current members know each other fairly well by name
and if we were alerted to someone being new, perhaps it could be
"hands off" killing them (unless they draw blood/theft) for a
couple of game days. That might take a little bit of structure,
but should not be too hard to accomplish.
Now, my main reason FOR PVP at 0,0 is due to watching a twitch
stream just today. Someone had taken over one of the apartment
buildings. Taken the doors of the POI and placed their own and
was fortifying it. Technically we have always had the rule that
if you take over a POI, then you are fair game at that location.
Now granted, we should not be allowed to take over a "rich" area
like the apartments solely for ourselves. (UNLESS, we go to
Spider's suggestions elsewhere of no loot respawn). Perhaps just
the apartments can be off limits to "Colonizing". But due to
their potential loot, they would make tempting targets on both
sides of the equation.
As you stated, there are more than enough to house the server
players and there is nothing stopping people/groups teaming up
to take over a single structure We probably would need some
points discussed on occupations.
But, in watching that person on Twitch it seemed like a cool
idea to be able to take over a building from a PVP standpoint.
People that don't want to build too much have some structures to
start out with and expand where they see fit. People that wanted
to build more grand structures could take over, let's say, the
parking garage. That would be one HELL of a foundation to start
building on and I would assume fairly strong to support their
"grand" structure. Neighbors could work together and build a
tunnel between properties. Or neighbors could build a tunnel and
murder their neighbor at an opportune time.....Ha.
Perhaps a rule would be needed such as "no killing when someone
is clearly in the middle of construction". Or maybe no such rule
needed...again, some finer points to iron out. We can all still
certainly build wherever we want outside of 0,0 as you stated.
In the interest of getting a little more interaction among
players while the developers and all of us grow with RG - making
0,0 PVP and allowing people to build there might just be the
thing to try out out for a bit.
I for one would continue to build my nomad shelters across the
map for travel and exploration purposes. But I would certainly
build within the city.
Would be quite exciting to wander around those streets or making
a mad dash out of the city limits to go find some supplies.
Wake in the morning and check out the sunrise through the window
- only to get a siper bullet right between the eyes.....That's
tension.

I agree. Since rarely does anyone actually spawn inside of the
central city, I see no reason to limit PVP there. The only rule
I can see making is to not allow anyone to build in that area
unless they are willing to be attacked. As in, stop signs mean
nothing there. I am going to take a leadership role here and go
ahead and make this an official rule change now.
If you have objections to this, please post here and maybe we
can put it to a vote but until then consider the old central
city rules cancelled. PVP is now in effect anywhere but
protected (With stop signs) bases. Any bases/structures built in
the central city hub are subject to immediate attack/raid/PVP.

I agree. No reason in cannot be PVP; otherwise, people can build
nearby in a non-raidable base and then forage in the city with
impunity. While I do not begrudge them a non-pvp play style; it
does seem to be taking advantage of the intent.
Should a pvp option be considered for new players? Wish they had
an option so during your first game day on the server you were
flagged and could not be shot by other players.

THIS! Yes this!
I could see people banding together to see how long they could
'hold out' in one of the broken down buildings or
garages...fortifying it bit by bit, floor by floor with the full
caveat that it could be destroyed at any time by players or
zombies, or both!
There's still plenty of loot in the city. Even if we have 50
players I highly doubt we could take up every square inch of GZ
Town's real estate.
With a handful of players who actually like the challenge, I see
only a handful of buildings which would even be altered in any
way.
Myself? I just want to hole up one floor of one of the smaller
buildings and see how long I can keep it!
NO STOPSIGNS!

And I agree with this part too. If a player wants to build near
GZ fine, but coming into town shouldn't be a free ride for loot.
I changed my mind on GZ being neutral no PvP once I actually got
a feel for how large these cities really are. There's plenty of
room and no one spawns IN the city anyways, always on the
outside of it.
Also, now that I see just how large the entire RGW map really is
(I think DALGODA found the edge at 40k?!) well...that really
changes everything.
There's plenty of room for people who do not like PvP to spread
WAY far out there in the wilderness and put up their stopsigns
and never be bothered.

0,0 definitely needs to be PVP friendly... I'm all for this!
