Limiting the size of Random Gen?

Hear me out before you bring the pitchforks! :)
Like everyone else, I was stoked for infinite terrain... the
limitless possibilities of exploring forever and never being
found! Then I got to thinking and after exploring extremely far
in many directions... if I don't want to 'ever' be found, why
play multiplayer to begin with? Also, I noticed, after traveling
very far from the center, you start to notice, random gen, seems
to really just repeat itself as to the size and pseudo overall
setup with the roads, in each biome. Gets very repetitive. (for
now... they will likely improve upon this over time I imagine)
What I propose, is limiting the size of random gen in general.
Large enough to be vastly bigger vs. lets say, Navezgane, maybe
2 or 3x bigger? But still not infinite to the point, we will
never ever, even if we played the same map for 5 years, run into
each other. And maybe increase the size over time, once they add
       vehicles into the game?
Again, if the point is to never find each other, then this
really just becomes single player with a chat room. All tho that
may be what people want? Like I said before, I think we can
still make random gen's size so large that you can primarily
play like this, if that's your desire, but still allow for those
of us that would still like to be able to physically interact in
game, without having to travel days and days without ever
finding anyone. I'm sure a balance can be found?
I may be alone in this line of thinking, but figured I'd put
this out there to see what others think. :)

Well, not to be an "I-told-you-so" kid, but I did call this out
during the discussions for PvP rules we all had for many pages
prior to the new build's release. In fact, I'll even quote
       myself (from page six):
       --- Quote ---
       > With as few players as the multiplayer game can currently
support (stability wise), I have to wonder if getting too spread
out isn't going to end up making PvP even more rare?
       --- End Quote ---
       Here's the deal ---
       1. The build is new, the RGW coding is new, and it's novel. So
people are exploring and living as nomads.
       2. The build is also buggy, requiring fixes and wipes. So ....
people are exploring and living as nomads.
       3. With wipes happening often, no one wants to keep building
near the hub city - GZ right now .... sooooo... people are
       exploring and living as nomads.
       4. The server can't hold more than 16-18 ppl and since most
everyone's exploring and living as nomads .... we're like a
handful of marbles rolling around in a giant bathtub.
Server stability, time to build and PvP goals, people will
settle near GZ is my thinking.
I do NOT want to squish everyone back down into a smaller map
just to force interaction / PvP. If that can't happen
organically then there's something wrong with game design.
Oh and the repetitive terrain thing, just like Minecraft. After
a week of traveling you realize what's the point, I've already
seen this all before a dozen times haha.

I don't think we would have to "squish people into a smaller
map"... you could still make the size respectable and much
       larger than Navezgane.
But I suppose people are going to play the way they want to
play, regardless of size. If it doesn't happen organically, then
limiting the size likely won't change this, being we're a
       consensual PVP server.

The exact same thing happened on my minecraft server. Lupa is
right, it is new and novel and most everyone is enjoying the new
found travel freedom. As she said, it will change organically.
Once the newness of infinite world wears off, most people will
begin to move closer to one central area. There will always be
that one or two people that enjoy playing antisocially but for
the most part this "nomad-ism" will wear off. We will be trading
and killing each other before you know it. ;)

Not being negative, just tossing ideas out there. :) But you
       both make excellent points.

       funny video!
What I think needs to happen, once the game is to a point they
aren't releasing frequent patches / updates / wipes (which is a
GOOD thing they do!) - is we need to encourage everyone to build
somewhat close to GZ (0,0) town and start interacting.
Cookie and I had a fabulous idea to collaborate on a Colosseum /
Community Farm / Trading Post idea ( see that post for details)
and would have brought some 'community' into the server as
people would head back from their wandering to hopefully check
out the pvp action and maybe even start up some tournaments (or
       war) and such.
Unfortunately, right at the point we were going to decide on a
location and start building, they wiped. That doesn't make it
very inviting to try again as who knows, this friday there may
be another build come out and another wipe.
Community and good PvP, trade, interaction requires a stable
game environment and lots of active players. I just don't think
the game is at that point yet. We're getting there! :)
As far as the server's type - it lends itself to socializing
more than PvP wars because there's no friction immediately upon
starting. I think the reason the pimps designed us to spawn so
far spread out around the base hub (0,0) is so that players on
full-on PvP would have a fighting chance to survive those
key-critical first 2-3 days. As is, we spawn about 500-800 out
from GZ (I am noticing that's the average) and it's up to
players to either head in to GZ town or not. Some do, some
       don't.
I almost think GZ central hub should be full on PVP zone instead
of NON PvP zone to encourage more centralized interaction. The
only place that should NOT be pvp is your own personal base if
       you put up the stopsigns.
