The Collosseum

Fellow Survivers,
As it seems evident that PVP action on the open wilderness will
be an extremely rare occurrence (thank goodness for the little
green houses), I want to reaffirm Grimtowns intent to put up the
Colosseum for our pain and PVP entertainment.
This will be located near the starting town (but not in it
because of lag and Zeds), and will compose a variety of three
different game "fields" with various styles of combat play. One
will be composed a lot like a paintball field, with various
"bunkers" at equal distances to allow for movement and cover
(grass and trees too). Another will be more like a walled maze
(mostly concrete and stone). The third will be more like two
snowforts on opposite ends for long range combat (hopefully we
can bring in some snow and call this one the snowball fight).
I'd also like to include a thought that Aknot had a while back
and put in a section for player rooms which can be used for
player-to-player trades. With the great distances that separate
the current bases, it seems evident that we won't see much
direct interaction between camps. Thus this central meeting
point can provide us with a good focus for PVP action, but also
in a regimented form that can maintain it's entertainment value
(in as much as all players will have the same weapons, and will
be assembled into teams).
Specific location and construction is yet to be begun. In the
meantime we are all surviving. Once the mainstay of life has
been established you will start to see this great project move
forward.
I will keep you posted. That is all.

Cookie! This is a great idea! How 'close' to GZ (0,0 town) are
you thinking of building this? I ask because I have a little
stopover (think of it as a post apocalyptic bed and breakfast
lol) out east of GZ I've been working on and depending on how
much space you need, there's a big flat beach and woodland area
between me and the river that could work - it gets only a little
z-traffic from that direction. I'd like to expand my farm once
my house is done (it's close) so we could have combined purpose
as my farm ("Food is Free!") will be a community garden and
trading post.
I also have a terrific view of the area you'd be building your
colosseum from my house which is high up on a tiny island bluff
overlooking the pond. Spectator's box!
If you'd like to come out and survey the area let me know. It's
not terribly far from GZ and I'd love to help!
EDIT: Only drawback to my location is I'm not really close to
any highway roads leading out of GZ - so if you were looking for
a roadside entrance then it might not be ideal. I AM right next
to the river (clay and sand galore) right next to the wasteland
(cinderblocks and brick) and right on top of 4 huge lakes.
Resources galore.

I like the idea too. I had something very much like this on my
old minecraft server. Lots o fun! :)

The Collosseum will have to be outside of the main town to
reduce lag and Zed spawn. Location will also have to have a
broad level plain to work with. First plan will be to level the
ground in preparation of construction, then lay out the basic
floor plan, and then begin building.
Proximity of local resources will be important. Thus to account
for the excessive amounts of cement that will be required in
this project we would need to have availability of gravel and
stone. Other resources will have to be imported in. If at all
possible I would like to keep it as close to Groundzero as lag
will allow (but far enough away so we don't have Zeds spawning
in the town). Anyone who can contribute resources will have
their name emblazoned on the cement walls for all to see (just
like the old Roman custom required). Bigger names for the
bigger contributors.
Lupa, a Collosseum garden will be necessary since players who
get capped in the games will have to utilize a food/water source
to get themselves back up to full for another go in the ring.
If we could integrate a farming system into the structure we
would reduce the food strain on any individual player.
If you have the interest Lupa, I would like to vote you as the
site locater. If you accept the challenge, please locate a site
and slide us some screen shots. The Grimfolk are still getting
established in Grimtown, but it sounds like this might be right
up your alley.

I'll definitely help with the garden - at least getting it
started and bringing in some seeds, etc. I'm starting (slowly)
to stockpile more than I need to eat on a daily basis so sharing
seeds for a larger 'farm' won't be a problem by the time you've
decided where to put the Colosseum.
As for 'Site Locator' duty, sure - I can survey around GZ but
still need to know how far out you want to go to reduce lag and
Z-spawn? For example, my base is at around 2100 east which may
be further than you want it to be but that's the closest 'green'
spot right next to the wasteland that goes all the way to the
city (at least on the east side). I have very little Z-spawn,
just a few daily roamers and of course the occasional horde but
they are quickly dispersed by the fact that my 'cove' is
enclosed by cliffs on two sides and huge lakes on a third side,
and river on the 4th. It's really nicely enclosed and keeps
hordes somewhat broken up which may be ideal for what you're
looking for.
I believe on the west side the forest area starts sooner but may
be too close. North and South will have to be surveyed.
I will take some screenshots of my immediate area tonight to
show you. And if you want to be closer to GZ than I am located
then you can go from there.
I was actually thinking adjacent to my property would be ideal
for me with building the farm portion - but again, you may not
want the location out that far (2k).

Oh and abundant gravel/stone supply is not a problem, as again -
I'm right across the river from the vast wasteland. There's also
a lot of those destroyed brick blocks which you can use for easy
building blocks (same toughness as concrete).
ALSO - exposed cliffs in the area one lake over from mine have
plentiful iron deposits right there on the outside, no need to
tunnel for it.
I chose this spot for it's plentiful resources while being
somewhat near GZ but not so close as to get too much foot
traffic and z-spawn.
Again, I'll post screenshots and exact location later tonight.

Just to update: Since there was a quick build update and seems
like the Pimps are hot to push out frequent builds right now
with the new RGW game (this is a GOOD thing for the game
overall) - I'm bowing out of this great idea for now - as I'm
sure you are too Cookie.
An area to have PvP competition is great but unless we do
something simple without a lot of construction, it's going to be
a waste of time with the wipes. Lets pick this project up down
the road when things with the game stabilize. Too soon in Alpha
I think!
