'Rule Policing' and Friendly Play

'Rule Policing' and Friendly Play
TL:DR

1) If you're breaking a rule, you could get in trouble,
no matter how good your intentions are.
2) If you see a problem, report it. Submit a ticket on Discord,
and provide info!

---------------------------------------------------------
We've got an awesome community here in GZ. For the most part,
you can expect to deal with friendly, mature players, that want
nothing more than to have a space to get their zombie/PvP
hunting on. It's because of you all that I was inspired to an
Admin. :)
Because our community cares, many people try to "police" the
server in an attempt to help us Admins. Those efforts don't go
unnoticed, and they're appreciated.
But there is a problem: when it goes too far. Namely, when a
person bends the rules, breaks the rules, or otherwise gets so
close to breaking them that we have to intervene. The reason
this is a problem is because there ARE people that will abuse
the rules in these ways -intentionally or not- and it frequently
results in toxic situations where we Admins are forced to make
tough decisions on how to mete out justice.
To combat this problem, we need to be clear on our stance
towards this:
"If you're going to break a rule, or the spirit of a
rule, you're putting yourself at risk. All infractions are
taken seriously."
---------------------------------------------------------
What does this mean for me?
If you are a troublemaker that is trying to stir the pot for
your own personal amusement, you best watch out. YES, we pay
attention. YES, we know who you are. YES, we will come down on
you if you continue to make trouble. Please don't make us do
that. We want you to enjoy the server, too.
If you are a well-meaning player trying to do your part for the
community, don't stop caring! You're why this server works.
But when there's a problem, consider taking steps that protect
you, the other players, and the server. Here's some helpful
tips:
- DO Politely remind players of the rules. Encourage them to
re-read them on the forums. If you misquote a rule on accident,
consider re-reading them yourself!
- DO Be respectful. Smack talk is part of our server, and we
all enjoy it sometimes, but it's not always easy to see when
someone is mad until they're already throwing grief at you. If
you're upset, or you think the other person is, just stop the
conversation. Go kill some zombies, dig some holes. Take a
break from the game, maybe dump out that bottle of suspicious
yellow liquid you had under the desk... And if the other
person(s) start getting mean, report it.
- DO Report issues to your Admin team. You don't need to say
anything to anyone else about it. Frankly, you're just feeding
the trolls whenever you say "Reported." But if there is a
problem, submit a Ticket on our Discord channel (just type
"/new" in the main lobby). Get a timestamp, take screenshots,
add co-ords, and add any other info you think is relevant to
your report. Then - and this is important- LET IT GO! We
promise we'll deal with the problem ASAP (especially if it has
affected your gameplay somehow), but if you stay hung up on the
problem, it will only make you more upset.
- DON'T Knowingly break a rule. For example, some of our worst
offenders are people that retrieve vehicles/bags for players.
That's awfully sweet, but it's also how items get stolen. Just
report it. Hell, send us co-ords and we'll <3 you forever!
- DON'T Get defensive. Oh my goodness, you guys can be fierce!
But you're not making GZ look any better than other servers
when you get super-hostile to people (no matter how much they
deserve it).
- DON'T Threaten people with Admins. Nevermind the fact that
you're putting words in our mouths, but we may not always agree
with your assessment of a problem, or how we should deal with
it. This is a (mostly) open server, and sometimes you'll
survive the apocalypse with people you just don't like. That
doesn't mean we should block everyone you dislike for your sake.
It's not fair when you scare off players from the server,
especially when you're not the one responsible for it!

Thank you very much for you attention on this matter! /endrant

Well said! Aside from excellent Admins, our player community is
what makes GZ the exceptional server that it is! Common sense
and manners go along way and usually that is the norm for our
server. I hope to see that continue! :)
