PvP Drama and My Response
By: Madman Date: July 13, 2018, 8:54 am
---------------------------------------------------------
There has been quite a bit of drama lately as it relates to PvP
on this server. I had some discussion on Discord over the last
12 hours, both publicly and privately. Let me share what I said
here and I will add more opinion as well.
So I am going to address some things now that I'm back
home. But, before I go further, I want to reiterate a rule that
is being broken by several tonight. It is literally the single,
most important rule to me and has been for years. It's posted
on the website and several places throughout the forum.
"If you have a problem with another players actions, come to me
with your grievance! Or try to settle your issues privately
with the other person as a mature adult. Do NOT engage in
negative or accusatory conversation about other players! This
goes for past or present players. Abusive or hateful
behavior/speech will not be tolerated! This applies to chat in
game or in Discord."(edited)

Now as far as the rest of the drama, I have to take some
responsibility. I haven't updated some of the "legacy" rules
regarding PvP on the forum. I need to do that asap. However,
I did send out emails and made newer posts regarding the PvP
nature of this seed. As stated here:
HTML http://kamcraft.createaforum.com/general-discussion/ground-zero-changes-and-more/
"PvP Zone:
There will be only one rule in the South: Never do more damage
than necessary to gain entry to another player's base when
raiding. That's it! Land claim blocks will no longer have
infinite protection. If you can't take the heat, get out of the
kitchen. That's why we have a split-map."
That is literally the ONLY rule in the South people!
And it only makes sense when raiding in this game to go for the
LCB FIRST! This allows easier access and entry into chests,
doors, etc. It's common sense really.
It's not griefing if you take something valuable in a raid.
That's the point of raiding.
I really don't get all of these complaints about PvP when we
have a split map. Nobody is forcing anyone to live in the
South. The whole and sole purpose of the South is to be a no
mans land filled with danger and risk. To kill and be killed.
To raid and to be raided.
And I get tired of players breaking my cardinal rule of not
talking shit about other players publicly. Consider this a
warning to all. I will not tolerate it any further!
I've updated the rules page on the forum so there is no further
confusion.
One of our players said this to me privately but I will not call
them out:
Your style of leadership does not fix the
problem. Telling everyone not to use special magic words does
nothing to address the problem. Hotrod will poison your player
base. Plenty of them only stay because there is not an
alternative.
I'll work on that.
This was my response:
I consider myself a very patient and fair
person but I'm pretty upset by your characterization of both my
leadership and the situation.
The real problem here is that you have joined the server and
entered the PvP zone without being fully educated as to the
current ruleset. There is only one rule. When raiding, don't
destroy more than required to gain entry. Using that knowledge
when playing in the South, nothing you have complained about
goes against our rules.
Secondly, h0tr0d has been playing on the server since 2014. Yet
we have grown to more than 1800 registered members and are the
longest running server in 7dtd, Always ranked in the top ten
globally for more than 4 years and have a very loyal player
base.
If someone breaks the rules, they get dealt with swiftly. I
keep cheaters and hackers out. I do my best to maintain a
measure of peace and civility here as well. I encourage players
to voice their grievances with me and do what I can to improve
things where possible.
I'm not sure how long you have been playing here but for you to
essential attack me for not doing what you personally want and
running my server the way you want it run is both uncalled for
and unreasonable.
I pay well over $100 per month to keep this server going while
rarely having any time to play on it myself. I do it mostly for
the enjoyment of the community and take pride in what I have
built here. If I come across overly sensitive about your
remarks, it's because I am. I care about the server and the
community.
Listen everyone, I have years of experience running this server.
I've tried all different manner of rules and management of PvP
here. The fact of the matter is there is simply no way to
please everyone. It is human nature to get upset when you get
killed or have something taken from you. The reason I finally
settled on the current setup of PvP is because too many rules in
an area that is designed for killing and raiding becomes
convoluted and confusing. There is too much room for
misinterpretation. It's the perfect recipe for anger and
accusation when you have to play with one hand tied behind your
back. This is a survival game, it's not minecraft. If the
South was representative of a real world apocalypse, there would
be zero rules. As it stands, the most important thing I care
about is that players don't destroy another player's hard work
by destroying more than necessary when raiding. It is supposed
to be a brutal, lawless no mans land so that a player can PvP
and raid without constantly wondering if they are breaking one
rule or another.
It's really that simple. Feel free to peruse the forum and look
at the evolution of PvP on this server over the years. We
really have tried it all. It just doesn't work with a bunch of
rules trying to tame and restrict behavior while at the same
time allowing killing and raiding. It's counterproductive.
The choice is yours. We have a huge map. Only half is PvP and
nobody is required to live there. If you aren't prepared to
deal with that, live in the North and visit the South if and
when you feel you want to deal with the danger and threat that
entails.
The most important thing for everyone to realize here
is that no matter what happens, I do NOT and will NOT allow
players to publically bash another player!
I'm deadly serious about this. Players that continue this
behavior WILL BE BANNED!!!

Hey guys  Whats going on?
Hey just wanted to drop my .02. Madman and h0tr0d Run a hell of
a server. These guys are Great admins, and put a lot of time
into this server. Having been on both sides of a game (admin
and player) I know what they go thru from both sides....
So from one player/admin to the both of you, great job and keep
up the great work you guys do!
<poof> Lurking in the shadows again :)

Thanks for the love but I want to clarify h0tr0d is no longer an
admin. He stepped down before this seed started. But yes, he
did very good work when he held that position. :)

As with all things, people should play a while before reaching a
conclusion. If you have only had the game 2 months then play it
for a while more, maybe through a few seeds/updates before
making an opinion on when we need a new seed /how the server is
updated.
If you have never PvP before errr lived in the south then try
playing on other PvP servers or go try Rust before coming to a
conclusion. In either case try it more than a few weeks or a
couple of months.
As with most things in life opinions have more credibility the
more experience you have. You don't step into a new job and
begin telling everyone how to do theirs if you are smart. You
don't walk into someone else's house and begin telling them how
to do things and the same applies here.
Play a while, stay awhile, and see what is up.

my goal for most seeds is to only stay in the north long enough
to get get leveled and geared enough to go pvp in the south as i
don't have the time i used to have to just start in the south i
can only play for maybe an hr or 2 here and there i used to have
some great pvp battles with h0tr0d and never once thought he was
cheating i know how good he is. to me h0tr0d is the main boss
and i want to get geared to go face him

I watched some of the drama, the name calling and all of that.
If you can't handle getting your ass handed to you, stay out of
the south. Stupid simple. If you can't be civil and realize that
this is just a game and have so much [glow=red,2,300]nerd
rage[/glow] [emoji35] over getting capped, go play RUST or CoD
if you like to be an asshole [emoji90]. Some of you are turning
this server into an unpleasant place. Who vouched for some of
you?[emoji15]

Hello all,
I am not aware of the drama that has been going on but I can
agree with h0trod, try different servers in regards to the pvp
and you will quickly realize how well you have it here.
I came from a server a little over a year ago where after
playing about month the Admins showed their true colors, they
would spawn camp me and friends, destroy our base, and when we
would relocate do it all over again with an endless supply of
items to take down our base.
I do enjoy the pvp aspect, but you rarely catch me in the south
unless I have friends online who enjoy pvp more than I.
This server has been the best 7dtd server I have played, with
quick responding admins who take the time to address our needs.
I think that some people may forget that they do this in their
spare time, and out of their own pocket for OUR benefits so
PLAYERS can enjoy the game, and sometimes people lose sight of
that.
But keep up the great work guys <3

sad to here madman about the grief
as always you and hotrod have my full support you have both ran
a great server for years it has really shit me over the years
players that join knowing full well the rules (or not) then
bitch and winge about stuff and want stuff changed after being
here for like 2 weeks ,something that always impressed me was
how you would stick to you guns on the basic concepts of the
sever ,it is as far as im aware still the only server offering
the best of both worlds pvp and pve .
I tried living in the south about 4 seeds ago after hotrod
talked me into it -) i got killed a few times once near my base
and i lost a few bodies ,i didnt like it so i moved back north
and said thanks but no thanks for the experience ,i didnt bitch
complain or try and change anything i had given it a go and it
wasnt for me so you move on -)
Keep up the great work ill be back on when alpha 17 drops

This was my first PVP experience with 7dtd and it was not what i
expected. I was really hoping to "duke it out" with other
players in the south. I never saw any other players. I was
killed by an unseen assailant once, who supposedly streamed the
incident. I don't really play anymore for fear of being griefed
by streamers. This is my third server and although it is the
best (so far), it is not an a**hole-free server. I'll be in the
North next flip.

getting shot isn't being "griefed". I'm not a "streamer" like
the term applies to ream streamers. I just stream because people
always accuse me of cheating or griefing so I want proof they're
lying.
I don't get all this "griefing" remarks people are making when
killed.
Fuck melodrama.
