Developers have confirmed that farming is causing lag!

I have noticed some people questioning whether our concerns
about farming is credible or not. Let me assure you, it is an
       absolute FACT that it is.
The two links listed in a previous post
       (
  HTML http://kamcraft.createaforum.com/general-discussion/farming-causes-huge-lag/)<br
/>were merely examples of the conversation about the problem on
       the 7dtd forums.
This issue has been tested and CONFIRMED by the developers of
the game and is now posted within the modified release notes for
       A16.1 B1 as quoted here:
       --- Quote ---
       > Farming of crops other than yucca and hops affects performance
       --- End Quote ---
Any suggestion to the contrary is WRONG. Farming is in fact
harming server performance. It is not isolated to just our
server. To help alleviate the issue, keep any farms you may make
small ( No larger than 8 x 8 ) and please pause for a moment or
two between each plant you pick up. Especially when we have a
lot of players on the server.
       Thank you.

I also want to mention that trigger plates may be, or become an
issue as well. They have said "Excessive use of trigger plates
may cause servers to lag during hordes."

       So, a question regarding this:
I'm a part of LadyReyven's larger group of folks that pop in n'
out, and depending on the day, we sometimes have 6-12 people on.
As such, a large farm is kind of necessary to sustain everyone
       that comes in.
Is there a way we can alleviate this without breaking the
server? My initial thought is that we make multiple 8x8 farms
spread out across a few bases that are within a day's walking
       distance of each other.
       Any feedback is welcome! :)

I not really too sure about the answer to that. From my
understanding, the biggest problems occur during the harvesting.
Every time a plant is removed, a lag spike is created. If plant
after plant is removed continuously, the lag spike grows
exponentially. So the best advice is to make the farms small and
slowly remove plants when harvesting. Remove a plant, wait a
moment or two to allow the lag spike to end and then grab the
next one and so on. That's the best we can do for now until we
know more. I'm hoping it is fixed with the next patch.

Ok so max size 8x8 that's ALL allowed by a group? Or can we have
as many 8x8 plots that we want? Also how about multiple rows of
30 blocks with spaces in between? That would be less then the
8x8 area you said but just rows instead of square areas.

I think it is ok if you have many 8x8 plots as long as they are
not bigger than 8x8. Personally I confirmed with HotRod last
night that bigger than 8x8 does cause lag for myself. Nobody was
having lag at all myself included then I returned to base where
I had 8x16 plot and started getting lag and could not open
chest. I relogged and resized my plots to 2 8x8 and haven't had
       lag since.

Ok cool but does it have to be 8x8 or could it be 2x32 or 1x64
rows? Is it the total number of Blocks connected to each other
or is it some magical thing where 8x8 works but any other
       configuration of 64 blocks wouldn't?
Also it sounds like it's the people in the same chunk as the
farm plots that end up with the lag like it's more of a Client
Side issue then a server side issue which would explain things
       alot more.

The size limit as opposed to the "gather latency" (waiting 2sec
between each block harvest, for example) is interesting. They
could be related or not. I don't know enough about the game
mechanics to know how land regions and individual blocks are
cached and updated to the server. And why would harvesting Yucca
be different? Lots of questions, particularly since I'm a
       validation engineer by day :)
Is there a way to capture a trace route or ping trend during
harvesting? I saw some trace route info in the other thread, but
I don't know what that tells us w/o context of the player's
       current activity.
My takeaway here is to not grow my garden and to not pick click
"e" as fast as possible. Help in both ways just in case.

       I don't know if 8x8 vs 1x64...but who would want a 1x 64 farm?
You can have multiple plots, just separate them please.
Distance, etc...only time will tell. I don't know what happened
but this is why I wanted to roll back.

Not grow your garden? lol That's impossible considering they
have nurfed the animals to hell how else are you supposed to
survive if you can't grow your own food. And knowing these devs
Alpha 17 and 18 and beyond will still have the same bug in them.
They are GREAT at causing bugs but not so great on fixing them.
So we have to find some work around since chances are it's a
       long term bug.
It doesn't effect the server that much when there is just a few
players online and this game was never intended for large
servers so it's not going to be a bug that is high on their list
       to fix.
