Base design alone will not keep someone that is willing to put
in the time from getting in. There a certain people on this
server that will literally spend hours punching your concrete
walls to get in because they have nothing better to do. Having a
hidden base can be nice, but some of us want to build grand
complexes for others to marvel at. The single-mindedness of some
players that feel they HAVE to get in sometimes makes me want to
live in the North; I like being able to compete for POIs with
guns and traps and thick walls as opposed to having to try to be
the 1st person there on loot respawn in the North.
My 2 cents. Happy New Year all

The friends of mine who joined a couple weeks ago fully intend
to PVP.....we just wanted a few weeks of getting our bearings
and gathering a bit of a nest egg...
That being said, there are a few who are saying they will still
live in the north, but make an outpost south to PVP out of.
(minus raiding of course, unless there is a rule about having a
base in both the north and south.)
So there will be (most) of us soon-ish

base raided... please keep in mind that you are speaking from
the perspective of a PVE player. IF someone finds my base and
raids it in the south, then good for them, they deserve it. I
will see where I screwed up in my base design or my ability to
hide it and I will modify from there. Honestly I would prefer
to get legit raided so that I have something more to do in the
game, as killing players is not an option due to a low pvp
population.

Keep in mind you are speaking from the perspective of a PvP
player and offering nothing more than your opinion based off of
only a few weeks here, versus the years of experience others
have. Take the time to form a judgment over a larger time period
and various seeds versus offering a knee-jerk reaction comprised
of: "this is how I think things should be done".
Thoddius answered your questions given perspective of months
playing here; I and others who have years of time here have
also...yet you flippantly toss this perspective aside in a
myopic point of view where "no one seems to get exactly what I
am saying".
I understand completely; I am pro-PvP and tried diligently to
have more PvP action but you cannot force it; the players must
want to do so.
The best way is to provide the environment and let the players
dictate what happens through their actions; this is what I mean
by "organic" as the dynamic unfolds how it unfolds, naturally.

Moreover, a personal question, do you want pvpers on your
server?

I cited my own personal opinion; I did not state what everyone
should do. Likewise, you (nor anyone) do not dictate what I
should or should not be "keeping the community focused on". This
server is run how I choose and this is based in great part by
how the community wishes.
However, I retain the right to do what I think is best for the
server and I do not listen to irrational arguments or a mob
approach in regards to any matter.
As to the convenient "disregard my previous post" so you can
make a more pointed and inflammatory question...I have answered
this and covered your question. I understand your
questions/concerns/frustrations; I was doing much the same years
ago here and even after becoming an admin I tried.
Again, I learned you cannot force it, at least, not to have the
environment with the split map to go with the player base we
want.
Your question is why is the server not attracting more PvPers;
it is not mine. You want more PvP action and base how I should
run this server off of other PvP servers despite the dynamic
being totally different. That was my question years ago but yet
again... I do not force the issue. Too much wasted effort and
stress.

> Moreover, a personal question, do you want pvpers on your

No. I don't want PvPers, I don't want PvE players. It is not the
"classification" of players I want. The players I want are
mature players who wish to enjoy the game in a stress and
hassle-free environment; the PvP or PvE tag is irrelevant.
I have taken note of the purposefully and unnecessary
inflammatory nature of this comment and it ends now. I have
beaten this dead horse enough; the server is set up the way we
have found to be the most conducive to the environment we want.
I may seem curt or acerbic but it in the best interest of
everyone that this ends, even if it is a "my way or the
highway." What we do works and is the result of years of
adjustment.
I suggested that you come here and make a well-thought out post
which rationally delineated salient points and came in tandem
with suggestions, not what is considered a "wall of text" which
appears thrown together hastily. I don't lend consideration to
irrational arguments or arguments which include fallacies of
reasoning (which in your case consists of the fallacy of arguing
using the "emotional appeal" and "bandwagon" approach). You will
find logical arguments which are well-thought out get you more
results, and not only on this forum, or with myself.
I enjoy seeing PvP on the server but with a caveat..I enjoy
seeing PvP that players enjoy.
Perhaps the question you should be asking is: "Why is this the
longest running server consisting of a player base which enjoys
their experience so much that it motivates them to keep the
server going through their personal donations?
Edited for poor sentence structure. Sue me.

Thread is locked.
On a public note I'd like to thank Thoddius for settling in and
seeing how the server plays so he can enjoy the game without
stress or drama; it was a process earlier on to be sure.
Hopen everyone had and continues to have a safe and happy
holiday season.
