Maybe I misunderstood

So I went to a familiar place to do some looting and found it
was barricaded up. It also in parts had a KStone associated with
it. (in some areas)
I was under the impression that building in preexisting
structures was not allowed. I could be wrong.
What is the rules for using preexisting structures as base? I
can see adding a door or some such for protection but once you
lay the Kstone you are essentially saying this area is mine.

Any premade structure that is taken as a base becomes a PVP
area. So killem and take back your loot spot. LOL

Exactly. As per Server Rules - "You must build your own base. If
you take over a prefab structure where loot naturally respawns,
your base automatically becomes a PVP area and is subject to
raiding."
