Hope you conferred these points to the raiders....such as the
section on not using hordes to destroy the base and camping the
spawn point. I hope next time you write something like this, you
learn alittle more about history about the people you are
looking down upon and blaming for the situation. I pride myself
on the fact that I have actually read the rules and understand
them and bend over backwards to be helpful to all. I don't know
why I bothered bringing this situation your talking about to
your attention in a pm, if you were just gonna drag it into
someone elses thread and lay it out for all to see. I'm not
surprised that blame was of course shifted from the group of
people involved in this incident to the single person that
reported. The voice of the many always overrule that of the
few. Great Job.

The direction of this situation puts me in a curious mix of
emotions. On the one side I have been having so much fun gaming
with the Cookie Muncher crew (and PrivateBarnes has been an
indispensable contributor to that enjoyment), that I am inclined
to act from the perspective that I am defending family. I was
not involved with the Teamspeak interaction, but I am in regular
communication with Barnes and I find it quite enjoyable.
On the other end of the coin, I have gamed with Hotrod since he
first joined the server. I will say that I miss interacting
with the mega-ness of his constructions back when he was a
player. Since taking on the role of administration his in-game
time is more limited. Don't see Madman on as much either.
Also, the PVP/PVE question has been a constant debate since the
early days. I believe the map-split (North PVE, South PVP) is
the most successful version, which was originally introduced by
Aknot (and we had a huge debate about that too). In the two
years since this server has been running we've seen lots of
dicks come and go, and we've had to deal with that as best we
could. Some got the ban hammer in the nads, some got bored and
moved on, and others lingered like a wood sliver just under the
skin. The one thing I can say with certainty is that this
server has a rather minor population of dicks compared to
others.
With that in mind, and with the commitment I have toward seeing
the continued success of this server, I feel it my duty to act
in a patrol capacity. Thus, if dickish activity is occurring, I
cannot help but get involved. I've had people grief-raid my
bases in the past. Madman and Hotrod have always been helpful.
In one case it helped provide info to get a player banned. I
can't overlook that. I've also been PVP from the beginning, so
for me death is a part of living the apocalypse. I've died so
many times and in so many different ways that I am perhaps
somewhat dulled to it's anger affects. Getting shot in the back
of the head by Spider while I was in a friends base crafting
chairs (must have been A9 or 10) resulted in a slug fest and I
pulled in three kills before we fended them off (though I have
to admit that one of those was sneaking up on Madman while he
was trying to move stuff in his inventory). Turned into a great
story for the forums (might still be on here somewhere). It was
a function of my reaction, *but it was also a function of their
reactions*. Spider didn't throw down barbed wire all around the
base, nor did he launch rockets/exploding bolts at the
structures unless a target was present, and he didn't light
forges to mud the combat with zombies. It was player versus
player, strait up face punching, and it was great. Adrenaline
was felt by all (turned into a six or seven player combat before
all was said and done, SgtFill and myself versus the invaders).
The first few moments after getting smoked are the hottest.
Attacking players need to take this into account. Like Hotrod
says, "it is how we handle situations and conduct ourselves that
is the main thing." If you are attacking someone and get the
kill let the steam clear a little before throwing more grenades
through the windows.

Hotrod, you also do me more honor than I deserve. However, if
you are awarding a unique item than who am I to turn it down :D
There is only one thing that would make Cookie happy --> a blue
beanie. One that can replace a helmet so I have the option to
use it in combat. Perhaps you could sew a blue beanie over a
helmet. Or, maybe you could just hot glue some metal plates
inside a blue beanie.
Either way, blue beanie make Cookie happy.

I confer every point that needs to be conferred. This is not me
siding with one or the other but nathan was mentioned by name in
this thread so his character was being impugned.
I wasn't the one who discussed what you said in a PM to me nor
did I mention you by name. The responsibility you share in this
is how you comported yourself during and following the chaos
in-game--specifically--going into Teamspeak and exacerbating the
situation. I didn't go into detail and hoped you inferred what I
meant and took it to heart; there is shared culpability.
The only blame anyone here shares is how they acted during/after
the event. The raiders were questioned along with witnesses to
said raid; I asked for information/perspectives from those
raided/involved and got those.
I do not believe there was any hacking/cheating going on; nor do
I believe there was deliberate griefing. This includes
deliberately using a horde to damage a base. It is incumbent
upon players to be aware of hordes during raiding or being near
another player's base; however, there is not going to be a rule
about raiding on horde night.
If you are in someone's base and they respawn there and you
shoot them again that is not spawn camping. If you then try to
make an exit and they engage you so you kill them again; this is
not spawn camping. There is a gray area here and it can be
resolved one of two ways.
Those being raided log off to avoid dying and enter teamspeak,
send PMs, ask someone in-game to send a message to chat asking
if the raiders would leave so as to avoid spawn killing.
Those raiding can recognize what is occurring and hastily
retreat provided there is a safe way to do so; It's possible to
log out also but then there's that gray area. I can teleport
people before they enter the game so that helps; we have home
commands for a reason also. I suggest having your home set to
NOT your sleeping bag; this can help in this situation. Maybe
have your sleeping bag in a room with no entrances or exists;
the only way out is to use /home.
Can you still select spawn near your bedroll?
During PvP set a bedroll at a different spot.
Shooting someone in the head whilst they fight zombies is a
perfectly legitimate tactic and not a "dickish" move. Raiding a
base when it is under siege from zombies is likewise not an
illegal or "dickish" move.
Unnecessary damage is against the rules. I don't think this
happened, but if someone was sniping at me from a window and I
could not get the proper angle...if my exploding crossbow bolts
would go through the window and damage that player from the
explosion this does not mean I am griefing them by aiming for
chests or such. Don't snipe at me from a window where your goods
are stored. Have a wall between you and them.
What I do believe is that there were multiple kills in a fluid
PvP situation that did not involve corpse-camping.
There were players unprepared/complacent and perhaps unused to
PvP and were taken unawares.
Complacency has always, in my time gaming, led to chaos, and
ever since I started online gaming when someone encounters
something they don't understand inevitably the cry of cheat goes
out. I wager I have been accused more times than most on this
server when it comes to hacking/cheating/rule-breaking than
anyone else.
I know the rules...I created most of them.
Again, the reason it was made public is because nathan was
having his name dragged through the mud in a kangaroo court in a
public fashion; this is unfair to him and a poor precedent. Even
if he was engaged in wrong-doing it is innocent until proven
guilty and he has asked questions continuously to ensure he is
playing legally ever since I asked him to stop blowing up GZ.
You may have not dragged his name here but you tagged on to the
thread alluding to the fact you were waiting for the admin to
report findings. Then Cookie, then bumbaloo, that was all no
bueno. You yourself knew your initial PM was written when you
were not in the calmest of states and your entering into
Teamspeak was not your finest hour from the witness accounts.
So there is plenty of blame to be shared by many involved and it
all revolves around conduct. I can fix most anything in this
game or on this server but fractured relationships and trust
issues I cannot. Likewise, it is difficult to break the stigma
of cheater/griefer/rule-breaker for players so I ensure I
diligently defend them unless it holds true.
In that case I take administrative action against them but I
don't publicly drag them through the coals and crucify them
publicly. I must set the example on how handle things when shit
hits the fan. It isn't easy; I have the nickname h0tr0d for a
reason.
PvP takes a bit to prepare for and has a learning curve and it
is hard to "master" unless you get out there and try it. It
becomes like a game of chess, having to think 15 moves ahead at
times; I thoroughly enjoy the battle of wits that occurs. PvP
is won before the shooting even begins, preparation is
everything. Complacency is the enemy.
Having the right items on your toolbelt is one.
If you're being raided, is your /home outside your perimeter so
you can use it to get behind said raiders? Do you have tunnels
and spider holes to get behind them that way? D o you have
avenues of approach to maneuver through death fields of mines
and spikes? It's easy to manage player's movements, tree here,
tree there, stone wall here, etc.
Barbed wire flat on the ground is a dead giveaway when they're
trying to be sneaky.
Sometimes else to consider is, once bested, and things cool
down, is to ask the raiders if there is anything you can do to
improve your defenses. Personally, unless I am dealing with a
large faction, I ant my enemy to be better prepared each time
and to embrace the challenge of the learning curve because once
you add in the matching of wits with other players it makes the
game so much more dynamic inmo.
OK I wrote a lot; I don't believe there was
hacking.cheating.intentional rule-breaking. There was a zombie
horde that came...did they time it deliberately? I doubt it. Did
they kill it off? Yes. As fast as they could? Who knows.
Gunshots draw more zombies. Was it the same base?
There are so many different pieces to this puzzle and it reminds
me of this movie I watched where it showed you things from
different perspectives; I don't think Crash was it. It showed
each actor;s take on the same situation; was very interesting.
No more diatribes; the point here is no matter what happens
in-game we don't flip out. Comport yourselves as I know you are
capable of; remove that chaos of fluctuation emotions and focus
on objectivity. Specifics and timelines helps.I have to piece
together quite a few different perspectives and ask alot of
questions and find the truth somewhere amongst it all.
I don't believe anyone is lying; I just know that everyone had a
different view and experienced it all at a different pace.
But that corpse thing was confirmed to me by Black Triad and
dalgoda as having happened between them specifically earlier.
Your final remark is unfair and unnecessary; it feels like you
posted that out of frustration. The voice of the many don't
overrule the voice of the one; I am the voice of one. The voice
of many include every player on this server; even those who only
saw it play out in chat because they are all affected by this,
be it directly/indirectly, or perhaps in some future encounter
they're involved in.
I took your post very seriously and in fact suspended nathan
temporarily just to ensure there was no more PvPing before I
talked to him. More of a safeguard for him then an sentencing of
guilt.
The player on this server who did light fires to attract zombies
was warned and next time they cross my line and impact another
player's experience negatively they are history.
Likewise those suspected of raiding bases in the north. I am 90
pct sure of who it is but w/o definitive proof, or definitive
enough for me, they were issued warning and the raided got
reimbursed by me. I see them in someone else's base again
they're history.
Nathan was told to give it a week or so before venturing down
your way; I suggest shoring up your defenses meantime. Perhaps
hire a consultant to offer suggestions and oversee...cost might
be zcoins (as you can transfer them in-game) or a donation to
server which gets my personal time looking over your base. That
last bit is tongue in check cause I do it for free for people
who ask to the best of my ability but my time is limited so I
can only do so much as I work on getting mods back in and
preparing for 16 amongst the daily troubleshooting.
Remember we want no drama, this is a game to escape our mundane
zombie-free lives. I type alot when on oxy...
