The Zombie Mash

I was in the process of throwing some logs into the forges to
invite the mindless neighbors over for cookies (they always want
my cookies) when AB42 sent a message that she was coming over to
pick up some appliances, and was intending to bring guests.
"Not a problem," I say to myself, "Cookie Castle is able to
accommodate a horde." Well... I didn't realize she would be
sending out so many invitations. If I had, I would have perhaps
added an extra layer of wall to my walls.
So, I'm out carelessly gardening when she arrives and we look
over the new construction for a while when suddenly darkness
arrives with the haste of a tardy guest. The man on the moon,
red in the face with his apparent lust for mayhem, peeks out
over the horizon as a shrill screech sounds in the distance.
"Hmm," says I, "that's the dinner call. But, I don't see the
guests. Maybe they're headed to another castle tonight." And
then they came...
It's the type of mad rush that leads a person to believe that
they must have been kicked out of their other party, and are now
so anxious to keep up the buzz that they literally run to the
next engagement hoping to beat the other party goers to the
cookie tray. Anyway, guests start arriving in such haste that
the doorman has trouble checking them in. I'm standing at the
castle doors to greet them, but the rowdiness gets out of hand
fast and they choke the entryway competing with each other to
have the first taste. Some even start banging on the walls in
frustration. I tell you, it turns into a regular mob!
Then I'm thinking, "Dang, AB42 is still out there. Whew, I hope
she doesn't have to stand in line long. This is a rowdy crowd."
I watch the telepathic text messages to see if she has been
eaten by one of the stray dogs these crowds tend to let loose
without proper leash rules. Thankfully nothing pops up. And
the crowd just gets bigger and more reckless...
It gets to the point that I begin to wonder if AB42 has gotten
bored standing in line and wondered off home. It's then that I
see the spotlight of a headlamp beaming toward the door.
Apparently she is sick of waiting. Slowly the beam of light
grows in intensity until suddenly AB breaks through the crowd,
shoving aside a nurse and stepping on the head of a crawler. An
imaginary group of cheerleaders stand at the sidelines cheering,
"GO, GO, GO!" I have to open the door, even though a persistent
zombie cop bangs upon it demanding to see my cookie license. I
swing it open, and whatever happens will happen.
Well, the zombie cop doesn't even see it coming. AB kicks him
in the knee and pushes him to the side, launching herself into
the entry. Then I slam the door shut.
It's like a touchdown at the superbowl, a hat-trick in the
Stanley Cup finals - an imaginary crowd cheers. AB is first in
line for the cookie plate, and all the zombies are jealous. In
fact they are so disheartened that they pretty much leave Cookie
Castle to the living for the next couple days. How long that
lasts is anyone's guess, but judging by the demand for Cookie's
cookies, probably won't be long...
