To the naked man running around Ground Zero...

I was skulking around the Ground Zero city looking for targets
of opportunity, and in the process (since it was completely
quite) I started to loot stuff. Always easy to track a person
looting. Lots of noise, and you have a fair amount of downtime
while sorting stuff. Anyway, as I was going about my business I
heard some footsteps running around, "probably just zombies"
says I, and then I went on smashing up some jars into glass.
Heard more footsteps and started looking around. Then I see
this naked guy run behind a block and try to hide. The curious
thing is that he had forgotten to turn off his headlights, so he
had this bright beacon (mining helmet) saying, "shoot just under
me".
As the old hands know, I am a militant but I like to keep
control over the animal instincts so I don't shoot new players
if I can help it, or people I can identify. Wish I would have
taken a screenie. Anyway, it was a split second decision since
I didn't want him to start taking shots. At low ranks weapons
don't do diddly now that we have skills, and I have a pretty
solid blunderbuss filled with nails. I headed out at a run. He
followed me for a while and after running a ways I figured if he
was going to keep at it I would have to start shooting, but he
went some other direction.
Morale of the story, if he had turned off his headlight he might
have had a good chance of hitting me with that bow in a vital
location and I wouldn't know where it was coming from. Probably
wouldn't do much against armor but if your have the little gun
surprise can be a good asset. So, to the naked man running
around Ground Zero, remember to turn of your high beams when
stalking. And try on a shirt, they are everywhere.

I once had a guy come after me in GZ with nothing but a Football
Helmet on and a CHAINSAW!!! My crossbow took him out after a
couple of shots, but he was waiting at my door for me to come
out at 4:00 a.m. and scared the human turd right out of me.

Say Thoddius, save that turd. Makes good corn.
And AB42, don't count on everyone to pull a punch. Some folks
get so keyed up on having stats that they will ambush a naked
guy digging in a trash pile to get a PK. Kinda makes a person's
stats pointless if they are all blasting some poor s-o-b who
doesn't have a bloody chance. Each PK should have a story to
tell that doesn't embarrass the shooter.
There is also a certain level of intenseness that comes with the
potential for exchanging shots (which is where the draw comes
for me). If a person can't control this fight/flight instinct
they make rash choices and often fail to keep a steady aim.
Person just has to keep it cool and accept the possibility that
you may get capped. It will make you a more effective combat
unit in the end.
I would also say that it is equal to a kill if a person has the
target in the crosshairs and chooses not to take the shot, but
pulls a screenie instead. Not sporting to blast a fella in the
head while he's chopping trees. Used to be everyone had a
sniper rifle so there was more of that potential. Now with
weapons the way they are it's harder to just mold up a whole
safe of rifles so you don't care if you lose one. Now they are
precious items, cherished like golden calves.
