I am going to be putting you back on the machine with the SSD,
And I’ll join you in the server. We’ll try a new seed and see
how it performs with 2 players or up to 8 if you’d like.
Apparently this means the server you're on will be offline.
I'll get back soon.

First bad hop was the one right after my branch with 2% loss,
and a ping spike of 555. Average 73, which is nasty because
almost every other ping hop is between 10 and 15

He rebooted the whole machine and it maybe fixed it.

If the server is shared by a bunch of other games, as appears to
be the case, I wonder if someone else's game or game utility is
to blame. There's a kind of latency for accessing the system
bus, I forget the name of it, but some programs just thrash it.
If the problem comes back as the other games spool up along side
ours, I'm gonna guess it is something the other games on the
machine are doing. That's just a stab in the dark, however.

Yeah tough guess on all that. Plus they wouldn't really say
much about what games are on the server.
