Cleaned out

They didn't clean you out, check all your chests.
As for the vault doors I spoke with them, that is not something
they shall do nor I will allow from here on out.
As far as raiding with the ease of crafting purple items and
getting gas it is relatively easier to break in.
I scouted your base and it wasn't terrible secure from an
experienced raider.
Finding land claims is a science...if you know a land claim
protects 41 x 41 then you find the permiter and trace it with
wood frames.
Then you do the math, 20 in and 20 down is the center and on
that vertical plane somewhere is the land claim.
I usually find land claims first as most people don't surround
the access to them in steel and then breaking in is easy.

cleaning out I did investigate all raided bases yesterday.

On that note, I will be revamping raiding so as to have
objectives other than taking loot...such as re-implementing my
flag idea.
I usually find land claims first as most people don't surround

Another thing they need fixed is the fact the offline land claim
modifier is the same as online...in other words...I cannot make
it tougher while people are offline... a long-time bug.

By "cleaned out", I simply mean they got access to everything,
and could take what they want.
I am not bemoaning the fact that it happened, nor am I really
sure it should be frowned upon - this kind of thing is what we
wanted to engage in when we signed up for PvP by making our base
in the south, we just didn't think a total owning would happen
so quickly or with such apparent ease.
Is it maybe possible to restrict the vertical protection of a
land claim to 41 rather than infinite?
It seems to me that if you have a base on bedrock, someone
should not be able to work out where the claim is by tracing the
circle on the surface.
I was not aware that the offline multiplier does not take effect
- that makes a big difference I suppose.
When you said it wasn't hard for an experienced raider to break
in, what things did we not do that made it easy for them?

The offline modifier uses the online modifier...I wish I could
make it more durable while players were offline to encourage
raiding when people were on.
I cannot change the fact land claims have vertical infinite
protection.

I've mentioned this before online, but I'll throw it in here
just for the record.
I think the biggest problem with multiplied-block-strength PvP
servers with raiding is that there is no way to adequately
protect your base while you're offline. And most people are
offline for a much longer period of time than online. What that
means is that there is no way you can stop a raider. An auger
with a bunch of gas and some patience is all you need to raid
pretty much anyone's base. Wait until they go offline for the
night and you got plenty of time to bust through anyone's
defenses.
At least any of the defenses that I've seen so far.
So, no matter how much you work on it, you are always at risk to
lose all your good stuff every night, while you ain't lookin'.
That's one of the main arguments against building in the south,
at least in my mind. So, I'll build in the north, I'll go PvP
in the south, but I don't raid. Dem's da rulez.
However, I did play on a server for a while that I thought had a
decent system, although even that one I considered to be only
half-right. They had whole-server PvP but the Land Claim Blocks
were invulnerable to player damage (but not to zombies!). So
there was no augering in to someone's base while they were
offline.
People still got "raided" though, but you had to be careless and
forget to lock your doors and all of your chests. I got shot
once in my workshop because I didn't realize that players could
jump a three-block gap across my pit and I forgot to lock my
doors after placing them. Keep in mind I was still in the
process of building at the time, but still, very embarrassing.
Other people got shot in their doorways and any unlocked crates
were looted. This made the "airlock" entryway a very popular
architectural design.
Then there were the raiders that got very creative and enlisted
zombies to do their dirty work. They'd lure the zombies to the
enemy base and get them to beat on the blocks. This actually
worked for a lot of sloppily-designed bases. However, the
raiders did eventually get banned after it was discovered that
they used what was considered to be an "exploit" in getting
zombies to beat down a door. I'm not familiar with the exploit
though, so I can't describe it. Personally, I think it had a
lot more to do with the fact that they raided the server admin's
base and then repeatedly insulted and taunted him and the junior
admins in the text chat about it. Really dumb move, I thought.
You know, some people's kids . . . and no, I was not one of
those raiders.
But, they were pretty clever in how they used the zombies to
destroy blocks and damage locked chests enough to unlock them.
Apparently it wasn't that difficult to manipulate those dumb,
mindless Zs, but still very, very risky. Of course, this was a
couple of software revisions ago. Your mileage may vary.
The good news there was that if you built appropriate zombie
defenses, then it made it very, very tough for those guys to use
zombies to raid your base. In some cases, impossible, without
using hundreds of zombies to destroy your defenses and that was
an hugely risky proposition. The raider was likely to die a few
times trying to raid a base whose owner was offline but had some
strong zombie defenses in place.
I did get my base raided that way though, but only once. I
realized I had made a mistake in my zombie defenses afterward
and corrected it. Even so, I was very impressed at the amount
of cunning they used to get in and didn't begrudge them their
loot. It took some planning, cooperation between players and
clever zombie trickery for them to bust their way in the way
they did.
Now, I know H0tr0d likes his server the way it is. That's fine
- I'm playing on it and I really like it. He's doing a great
job, in my opinion and I've got no complaints.
But, here's a suggestion anyway that I think would encourage
more PvP participation and make the server even better:
1. Make all Land Claim Blocks invulnerable to player damage.
2. Allow the use of Zombie henchmen to raid other player's
bases.
Instead of just mindlessly drilling through [insert material
here] to raid another player's base, make the raiders have to
use their noodles too. I bet they'll even have more fun doing
it that way.
That's my two cents worth.

I didn't know this before but apparently there's a bug involving
vault doors and pipe bombs that will blow open the door while
leaving it unharmed and changing the ownership so that you can't
close it. As soon as I read it on steam forums, I thought of
this post and decided to comment. Whoever broke into your base
used an exploit. That's why it was so easy for them to get in. I
suppose crafty players are out there that could get in but I'm
sure that it would take longer.

One of our players on this server made me aware of this
*exploit* and I recorded and sent it to the devs already.
If I catch anyone using this or an exploit knowingly to *harm*
another player or their work they shall be banned.
I am going to implementt anew PvP raid rule; I just don't know
when I shall.
The rule will be that anyone who lives in the PvP side and does
not wish to be raided can surround their base with stop signs.
The caveat, of course, is that they cannot raid anyone else.
The intent will be that those smaller groups/factions won't be
overrun by more experienced base raiders and larger factions; I
want to encourage PvP.
And when they are ready to engage in raiding they can remove
stop signs.
I most likely will also re-implement the flags...so we have a
reason for raiding other than looting someone's base.
I don't want to take raiding off the table but we need a way to
encourage players to build and play PvP and not discourage them
by being raided and then stopping playing as a result.

I don't want anyone to to think that I'm trying to stir up shit
or anything. The reason for my post was to let Evilc know that
although defenses, from what I heard, were not great that they
should have held up a bit better than they did. I don't want
anyone to be discouraged and I haven't seen them on, lately.
That's all.

That's b/c they got discouraged; which is what I want to
prevent. Unfortunately I can only do so much

So someone kills me and swipes my good sniper and laughs running
off towards his base track him because "hey he took my sniper"
and he runs past his wall of stop signs safely with the sniper.
I think the raiding rules are enough personally.
Don't clean someone out. Don't be a griefer and go back day
after day.
But essentially what this stop sign would do would discourage
pvper's if everytime I discovered someones base it had a stop
sign on the lid lol
Im all for encouraging the pvp side of this server and love that
it is were it is which is friendly on the whole. Its a shame to
hear people are having bad times. I have been raided in the past
and caused me to totally rethink my whole gaming life lol it is
gutting of course it is but maybe also it will encourage people
to try to build allegiances and friendships.
I will be sad to see the stop signs implemented but also
interested to see how the dynamics will change.
I think raiding is a massively fun part of being south and also
defending against raiding I hope everyone thinks the same and
opt's against stop signs.
I can see it be abused too much the stop signs.
