       The man accused of fatally stabbing a convenience store employee
       will be executed next year.
       
       Judge Bobby Galvan set John Henry Ramirez's execution date for
       February 2, 2017.
       
       Ramirez, who is now 32, was sent to death row for fatally
       stabbing convenience store employee Pablo Castro, 45, during a
       robbery. Castro was stabbed 29 times as he took out the trash
       from a store on Baldwin Avenue back in July 2004. Ramirez got
       away with just $1.25.
       Ramirez was on the run from police for four years until his
       arrest in the killing. He was convicted of capital murder in
       2008 and sentenced to death.

       Wednesday, October 5th, 2022
       Texas executed John Henry Ramirez on Wednesday, October 5th,
       2022. John was pronounced dead at 6:41 pm local time, inside the
       Walls Unit execution chamber at the Huntsville State
       Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. He was 38 years of age. John
       was convicted and executed for the murder of 45-year-old Pablo
       Castro on July 19, 2004, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He has spent
       the last 13 years on Texas’ death row.
       John graduated from high school and worked as a kitchen laborer
       before his arrest. He had previously been arrested for robbery,
       evading arrest, possession of marijuana, and unlawful carrying
       of a weapon.
       John Ramirez, Angela Rodriguez, and Christina Chavez spent
       several days using drugs in mid-July 2004. On July 19, the three
       agreed to rob someone to obtain money for more drugs. After
       driving around, the group pulled into the Times Market in Corpus
       Christi, where they found Pablo Castro taking out the trash.
       Ramirez attacked Castro, stabbing him a total of 29 times with a
       six-inch serrated knife. After Castro fell to the ground, the
       group searched his pockets and stole a total of $1.25. The trio
       left and went on to commit another robbery, and attempted a
       third robbery.
       Rodriguez and Chavez were apprehended soon after, while Ramirez
       was apprehended on February 20, 2008, near the Mexican border.
       Ramirez was sentenced to death on December 8, 2008.
