James Coddington was sentenced to death by the State of Oklahoma
for the beating death of an elderly man. According to court
documents James Coddington asked the victim to lend him money to
buy drugs and when 73 year old Albert Troy Hale refused
Coddington beat him to death with a hammer. James Coddington was
arrested, tried and convicted then sentenced to death...

Oklahoma death row inmate James Coddington to be executed
Thursday morning--
Coddington has been on death row for the 1997 murder of
73-year-old Albert Hale

OKLAHOMA CITY —
Oklahoma is just a few hours away from executing convicted
killer James Coddington.
Coddington has been on death row for the 1997 murder of
73-year-old Albert Hale, whom Coddington beat to death with a
hammer for refusing to give him money for drugs.
The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board recommended clemency for
Coddington about three weeks ago, but Gov. Kevin Stitt on
Wednesday denied it.
With the denial, Coddington will be executed at 10 a.m. CDT (11
a.m. EDT) Thursday at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in
McAlester.
Hale's son said he's forgiven Coddington but did not support
clemency.
"I don't feel sorry for him. I do feel pity for him," Mitch Hale
said.
The execution will the first of 25 scheduled in Oklahoma over
the next few years.
Earlier this year, a judge ruled the state's execution method
does not violate death row inmates' constitutional rights.

MCALESTER, Okla. — The state of Oklahoma has executed death row
inmate James Coddington.
Coddington was pronounced dead by lethal injection Thursday
morning at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester.
