Idaho officials announced Monday their intention to seek the
death penalty in the case against Lori Vallow, a mother accused
of murdering her two children, Tylee Ryan and J.J. Vallow.
The state made the announcement via a court-filed notice.
The state's representation declared it would seek the death
penalty if the mother is found guilty and convicted of any of
the counts relating to the charges of first-degree murder and/or
conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, according to a report.
Lori Vallow's lawyer entered a plea of not guilty April 19 for
each of the charges, the report noted.
The alleged child murderer made national news when she and her
would-be husband, Chad Daybell, fled in the wake of her
children's September 2019 disappearance, according to the
report.
The pair got married two months after the children went missing,
the report noted.
Daybell's first wife reportedly died weeks before the marriage,
and Lori Vallow is facing charges relating to the death of her
prior husband, Charles.
The remains of the missing children were uncovered by
authorities on Daybell's property in June 2020, police said.
In May 2021, both the husband and wife were indicted on murder
charges, according to the report.
Initially, Lori Vallow was deemed "not competent to proceed,"
but she was deemed "restored to competency" and "fit to
proceed," according to an April 11 court order.
Daybell is also facing charges relating to the death of his
prior spouse, according to the report.
