Gilbert Ray Postelle is scheduled to be executed on February 17,
2022, at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester, Oklahoma.
Thirty-five-year-old Gilbert is convicted of murdering James
“Donnie” Swindle Jr., Amy Wright, Terry Smith, and James
Alderson on May 30, 2005, in Del City, Oklahoma. Gilbert has
spent the last 13 years on death row in Oklahoma.
On May 30, 2005, Memorial Day, James “Donnie” Swindle Jr., Amy
Wright, Terry Smith, and James Alderson were all gathered at
Donnie’s trailer. The trailer was located next to a salvage
yard and alignment shop in Del City, Oklahoma. That same
evening, several people were also gathered at the Postelle home,
       where some were doing drugs.
Brothers, Gilbert and David Postelle, both talked about their
belief that Donnie Swindle was responsible for a motorcycle
accident that left their father physically and mentally
impaired. As the group began talking about target shooting,
several individuals left the home in a maroon Dodge Caravan to
       obtain ammunition and additional weapons.
One of those in the vehicle testified that they heard David and
Gilbert discussing going to Donnie’s home and shooting him. The
passenger was concerned by what he heard and he asked to be
       taken home.
On the evening of Memorial Day, several witnesses in the area
reported hearing multiple gunshots. A maroon Dodge Caravan was
recorded leaving the salvage yard shortly after the shots were
       fired.
One witness testified that there were four men in the minivan,
either Caucasian or Hispanic. Another witness who saw the
vehicle and two of the occupants was able to pick David Postelle
       out of a photo line-up.
Police investigated the shooting and first discovered the bodies
of Donnie and Terry. The bodies of Amy and James were found a
       short distance away.
A man who had been living at the Postelle home for about a month
noticed a significant change following the murders. The
Postelle family had every television on news stations with video
footage of the van leaving the murder scene.
A few days after the murders, the Postelle family purged the
home of drug paraphernalia and drugs. They also decided to take
the minivan out of state, burn it, and put it in a lake. They
buried the license plate and gun parts in the backyard. The
houseguest also heard Gilbert talk about killing someone. There
were also discussions of creating stories to tell the police to
prevent the truth from being revealed.
Randall Wade Byus was with the Postelle family when they went to
Donnie’s trailer. He testified that Gilbert carried out the
murders and that Gilbert’s brother and father were also present.
Randall reached a plea agreement after agreeing to testify
against Gilbert. Gilbert received two death sentences and two
sentences of life in prison, without the possibility of parole.
Gilbert’s brother, David, was sentenced to life in prison.
Their father, Earl, was ruled incompetent to stand trial due to
the brain injury suffered in the motorcycle accident.

Oklahoma executes man on death row for role in 2005 quadruple
       slaying--
       February 18, 2022
The inmate who was executed in Oklahoma on Thursday for his role
in a quadruple slaying back in 2005 had a last meal that
included 20 chicken nuggets and three large fries, according to
       a report.
Gilbert Ray Postelle, 35, declined to give any last words during
the state’s fourth execution since October. A doctor entered the
chamber inside the Oklahoma State Penitentiary and declared
Postelle unconscious at 10:06 a.m. after rubbing his sternum,
shaking him and appearing to speak to him.
One media witness told the Frontier that Postelle did not seem
to struggle with his breath and his death “happened really
       quick.”
Postelle did not deny his involvement in the Memorial Day 2005
shooting deaths of James Alderson, Terry Smith, Swindle and Amy
Wright. But Postelle’s attorney, Robert Nance, argued that his
client suffered from a learning disability, the abandonment of
his mother at a young age and had begun abusing methamphetamine
on a nearly daily basis beginning at age 12.
“He’s a different man than he was,” Nance told the Pardon and
       Parole Board During in December.
Postelle himself also testified at the hearing via video link
from the prison that he had been using meth for days before the
killings and remembered little about the crimes. He was 19 at
       the time of the killings.
“I do understand that I’m guilty and I accept that,” he said.
“There’s nothing more that I know to say to you all than I am
truly sorry for what I’ve done to all these families.”
Prosecutors say Postelle, his brother David Postelle, father
Brad Postelle and another man carried out the killings in a
“blitz attack” motivated by their belief that Swindle was
responsible for a motorcycle accident that left Brad Postelle
seriously injured. But prosecutors said there was no evidence
that Swindle was involved in the crash.
Gilbert Postelle received two death sentences for the killings
of Wright and Alderson after evidence showed he pursued the two
as they were trying to flee and shot them from behind with a
       rifle.
“He got what he deserved today,” Milner said.
