Jed Rant: Getting silly... and having fun.
DIR By: Jed McKenna

---------------------------------------------------------
Dear Members and Lurkers:
Are you having fun yet? Really, I'm asking you (yes you) are you
having fun yet and I am not joking. I'm guessing that you have
been in your space suit (or rather your space suit has been in
you) for a few tens to an embarrassing number of tens of years.
That is plenty of time, in my opinion, for you to have lots of
it, so, are you enjoying you limitless allotment of fun.
If you are, welcome to the club. If not, then I am curious as to
what is stopping you from having fun. Why are children so
lovable, they are having fun (most of the time, but not so much
when parents interfere). Why do we like comedians and jokes?
They are fun and often the most fun when they point to something
silly that humans/we do, and one of the silliest things is
humans don't have enough fun.
I'm not saying that you should go out and have fun, kick up your
heals, joke, question authority. There really is no imperative
that you have fun, no prime directive that you should, but it
seems like a good idea to me.
Perhaps the world (and you) has been duped into thinking that
hard work at a job one hates, staying in relationships that are
stinky and stale, going to church to get a good dose of guilt
(opposite of fun) or maybe joining the military and killing
people or, perhaps getting oneself killed (pretty sure that's
not fun)... that these are just the way things are and what one
does in this world. I call b. s.
The earliest that I can recall is probably something like three
years old. At that age I sensed there was not enough fun going
around, even though I couldn't verbalize it, I just sensed that
those around me, and everyone else I came in contact with were
not very happy. Even at that tender age it seemed a little
silly, less-than-optimal.
I'm not saying that you should have more fun, I'm suggesting
that it would be... more fun to have a more fun. One of the
funnest things you can do is find out that there is no ''you''
having fun. That one's a blast. Fun is just a play of mind and
if you don't play with it, society, church, government and
institutions would definitely love to take on the task. Only
problem is that their idea of fun is not much fun. Enough of
their fun and you will go quite crazy... be like everyone
else... comforting perhaps, but no fun.
BK has a good test in here teachings. Ask of every thought, ''Is
that true?''. Well, I gotta mess with everything it seems (just
having fun) so how about asking of every thought. ''Is that
fun?'', or, ''Will that thought put more fun in my life?''. You
might come up with:
1.) I don't know.
2.) Yes, it will.
3.) No it won't.
Perhaps the best solution for the first answer is just be
patient. For the second answer, proceed as planned and enjoy.
For the third answer you might ponder ''What the heck am I doing
thinking it?" Then I suggest following up with something that is
a little more fun. It may be a thought or an action. It doesn't
matter in my experience.
While you still have a mind, you might as well tickle it.
Love ya, Jed.
P.S. If you don't have a mind then ignore the foregoing. You are
already having plenty of fun.

I'm having fun... discovering that the world is crazy, no one is
sane, and that i don't exist has been a blast!

I hallucinate that fun is overrated, just like happiness, love
and what have you. I'm not having fun nor am I not having fun.
The thing is, I hallucinate, that it's part of the habits of the
meatsuit to have fun or not. My meatsuit doesn't care for fun
and never did...
Well, the above was my reaction whilst reading your rant, and
then you said: "If you don't have a mind then ignore the
foregoing. You are already having plenty of fun."
I suppose I'm all out of mind and there might be fun, just no
"me" to be having it.
Nevertheless, I still hallucinate that fun is overrated. If I'd
have to choose between having mindless fun the rest of my life
or die in my sleep tonight, I'd gladly and thankfully choose the
latter. But hey, no choice, right?
Cheers, Frits.

Having fun or not it is what it is.

I seriously doubt if there actually is a "main thing" apart from
an apparent "no main thing"... I think there's only one thing
and by labeling it "fun" you instantly create the possibility of
"no fun" and then you're back to dual square one. So I tend to
agree with Kimber and disagree with Mr. Jed... it is what is,
not this not this, neti neti, et cetera, and by calling it "fun"
and making it something to aim for, you're f.u.c.k.i.n.g the
whole thing up.
I think it's BS advice from Jed. But hey, who am I?

Hi Frits:
I think you took this the wrong way. It has nothing to do with
T/R. It's about what is missing in your human experience. You
seem to not have a lot of it, and all I'm saying is have a s h i
t load more fun and you will be happier. Nothing more profound
than that. Nothing need be more profound.
Having said that, I appreciate your communications and am just
having fun... with you...
Love ya, Jed.

I don't think it's B. S. I think it's semantics. Although it all
is B. S. too. At least anything said or thought is.

*shrugs*
Just some common sense, if only it were more common, eh?
Lets do more fun, because why not? Whether there is a choice in
it or not, more fun sounds fun. ;D
Frits, I recall you having the Joker from Batman as your profile
picture (was it with the old forum?) where's the fun? :-*
